Keeping Another Mini Out Of The Scrappy

After I picked these up I got home and started work on the boot hinge panel. Decided to cut the bottom off and started to remove the paint.
Wait a minute that's not just paint
That's quarter of an inch thick filler. This was done by a body shop 5 years ago when it had like the littlest of bumps and really only needed hammering out. The whole rear panel was covered in filler. Wondered why it was hard to line the floor panel up properly.
Anyway got it all cut out and the new panel lined up. I joggled the panel to make like a little easier and so I didnt blow through and have loads of holes.
Cleaned up the rear panel
Got the repair welded in and most of the boot floor to hinge panel as well. Going to finish those welds off after work and then move on to finishing the drivers side rear arch closing panels and tying it into the rear bulk head

£163 was better than paying the full price, it's good when you know someone that works at moss and he sorts you out. Also it helps that I spent most of my time in there when I used to drive this car daily. Think the full price of the panel is about £185

I didn't want to chance repairing it and my pocket is definitely lighter. Was easy to do though only took a couple of hours. it was worth the money

Both rear quarters and waist rail for passenger side as its rusty as anything.
Got the inner sill stiffener and the closing panel for the arch in place.
Had a problem with my welder which then seemed to just disappear but it's a good job these welds will be hidden they look awful.
Fitted up and marked out where to cut the rear quarter to put the new one in. Hoping to get this in tomorrow before work so need to get up really early and get a move on

Here it is clamped in place wanted to make sure I could get the arch to close up against the panel so I used every clamp and mole grips. Needed a bit of persuasion in the form of a big rubber hammer too but the gap will close up nicely now.
Also got the rear subframe support bracket in. This is only used to add strength as won't be using a rear subframe. Now the only thing that will happen once the rear quarter is in I will have a gap to close up. The floor is as high as it would go and the boot hinge panel is in the correct place so I guess I will have to close it up with something anyone have any ideas ?

You could always flatten out the seam where it folds at 90 degrees and then make a new fold further down.
If that makes sense...

Rear quarter drilled and prepped ready to go in
While waiting for the paint to dry I ground down the rear panel welds on one side. Going to need a skim of filler but ah well going to look good in the end.
Mostly welded in now but as I don't have much time after work got some welds to finish in a couple of days.
Nice to take a picture of the inside and not just see massive holes on each side. Going to get the welding on this finished and then move on to the other side got a better plan for getting that side done quicker so I can move on to the rear valance and finishing off the closing panels and then putting a piece in to cover up the battery box hole

Surprisingly not that bad to be honest. The bend that goes around the b post was easy to get flat and tight against the edge. I bent down the lip where it meets the floor and then re bent it lower down. It even with some persuasion was quite easy to get the lip round the arch to be nice and tight. Going to finish welding it in tonight and then clean up the welds and cover in primer

Finished welding in the rear quarter so that's not going anywhere. Then set about covering the welds on the drivers side of the boot hinge repair.
I had already ground the welds down as much as they would go but still looked horrible and I knew filler was imminent. Put a slight skim of filler on over the seam and sanded it till it was smooth and no lumps only took three hours to get it right. Then dropped on some primer and as you can see you can't tell it's been repaired

So panel back to bare metal and the door fitted back on to make sure it still fits which it most definitely does and the coach line matches up really good.
Used some filler to remove some panel issues and now just working on filling over the welds at the top of the panel. Also covered it in primer so it won't go rusty got a few other parts on the panel to use filler on, such as behind the rear arch as it had some little dings from getting it into position for welding. That's all for now
