Me too! That film was brilliant

Most annoying thing about the film is I can't talk about it with anyone because they haven't seen it

just got back from watching it again with my eldest daughter, she's a 10 yr old star wars head

Is it better the second time you watch it ?

So I've finally finished this pain in the bum of a dash it's been really hard to get right.

I've made some of the pieces three or more times I've killed one drill cut my hands open. Welded nuts on to the tabs and strips to many times. Got really stressed and wanted to give up on the whole project but it's now done.

17D4720F-67DD-43E3-ABB8-DF41B5DCB3B8_zps

So after successfully making and cutting out the passenger side and sorting the glove box. I decided I didn't like how the glove box door fitted so made that in total 3 times but now it's right. I then started to proceed onto the drivers side I marked out the clock holes and made an attempt to cut a 92mm hole with a hole saw and hand drill which I then killed. Couldn't work the hole saw and tried a different approach which meant the holes weren't round and not even close to right. Scrapped that piece and cut out another one. I got the hole saw to work after I bought a new drill and now it looks right. Note to self don't use a hand drill to make huge holes in one go as i nearly killed the new drill oops.

Finally got it correct and trimmed with the retaining straps fitted. Had to file all the drilled holes to get it right but was worth it.

The glove box door holds its self in place and then can be used as a little shelf if needed. I will say although it has been a real pain to make it has been worth it. I now just need to buy all of the clocks and paint it in black wrinkle paint then buy all the gauges.

Feel free to comment on this

All for now

I like making my life as hard as possible haha. Also I really like knowing what's going on with the engine hence all the gauges. Plus it will look cool with a load of needles moving all over the place. Wait a minute I think I have lost the plot

I recieved all of the switches for the car today, along with the small warning lights. I was going to spend all day on the car but decided to relax instead and just fit the switches and lights to the dash. Also made up a panel to cover over where the original one sat.

Got the FIA version of the battery cut off switch as the safer option as if for what ever reason I have to use it I know it should protect the electrical parts. it will definitely be used as a anti theft device as well. Next to that is the push start button. The two switches with the amber lights are for front and rear heated screen. The one on the far left is to test brakes. The switch to the right of the hazard switch is for the lights and is a pull type switch. That spare hole is where the choke cable is going.

Only thing I'm missing from my order was a little blue light but I rang car builder solutions and it will be here tomorrow. The two small switches are for accessories. One is fuel pump other is going to be to cut spark. The long switch is for rear fog light so it's easy to reach when strapped in.

Just a few pics of the dash from different angles. Also didn't realise how well it follows the curve of the dash rails. I'm impressed with my self with what I've done with everything so far just need to finish the rest of the car now.

Also deciding on wether to fit a roll cage or not. I want to for the fact it stiffens the shell and adds saftey to the side of the car because I would fit door bars. It would also really suit the style I'm going for. Also currently on the look out for some decent bucket seats, I'm watching some on eBay but failing that will be buying some sparco sprint seats

All for now

I will say now I'm sure people are bored with looking at this dash and would rather be seeing other progress on the car but I thought I should get the dash finished minus the gauges one of which I shall order tomorrow so the middle panel will be complete.

6AA9F05D-DE28-47A8-B72E-1BB9E7B83551_zps

Took everything back out of the car and covered it in wrinkle finish paint. Now I know everyone uses the vht one but I thought I would try the halfords own one and to be honest it's come out very well.

B0A17418-F8C8-4559-9D0B-A4E24CD069FF_zps

Put the switches and labels on the middle panel.

FF8B62D6-7503-4219-BE4E-DCD454351E0A_zps

Put the glove box door back on the passenger panel. I also decided to scrape the paint off the stainless part of the hinges, think it looks better that way.

ACD159AB-323A-4CD8-8C66-80E7552903E3_zps

Put the clocks back together and put them back on the panel and realised I need to paint the white plastic black so it doesn't stand out.

Lower switch panel all together with labels

Close up of the finish and also shot of the back showing how the clocks are held on. Today I also welded on the passenger outer sill and the seat belt mount on the inner sill so that means the only welding I have left is steering rack mount and the engine steady bracket. That will complete the shell then it's onto clean up weld in some seat mounts and so nearly ready for paint

Cheers mate the paint does make it look better I wasn't sure how the paint was going to come out as it was quite hard to use not like regular paint but it was worth it.
