had no time to work on the car the past few days due to work getting in the way. it also looks like I'm only going to get one day this week to work on it which will be tomorrow as I'm working the next six days at a total of 65 hours this week. i know I'm getting paid a lot of over time but guess i won't be having a life this week hahaha   :tumble:

in the past few days though i have put together the list of things that i will need to finish the shell before starting on the engine and gearbox.

Screen%20Shot%202015-12-06%20at%2021.45.

so looks like I've still got a lot to pay out thats the price for brand new things. there is other stuff I've left of which I'm going to try and source second hand and clean them up

all for now

As tonight is the only night I will get to work on the car, I spent all day thinking of what to do. As I had the time to think, I decided to do the one thing I was going to do last as I was dreading it.

Cleaned up all the welds in the boot and any bits of surface rust off the boot floor and covered it in kurust. I then set about marking out the a plate for the battery box hole. This took some thinking as each side of the hole was different and the side closest to the hinge panel had three different shapes down the one side.

After plenty of bending, tack welding and and then hammering and bending to get it all to line up it was in. Ground down the welds and covered in kurust

Going to get some zinc primer onto everything at dinner time tomorrow and that will be it till next week

All for now

So just popped home for an hour and got the can of zinc primer out and used 3/4 of a can to cover the floor and spraying loads into the hidden joins hoping it will run into the gaps in the seams.

I know the boot floor could have looked better in terms of cleaning the welds up and stuff but it's nothing a bead of tiger seal smoothed out with some thinners won't hide and the it will be sprayed with stone chip before its painted in body colour. But before all that I will need to buy my fuel tank and work out how I'm going to fit it as I'm going with a central mounted baffled alloy tank from OBP. Got to go back to work now 😞 And won't get to work on the car till next week when I will finish the scuttle to window frame join

Good work mate , I didn't want to grind the welds down too much in the boot as the metal isn't that thick so I didn't want to weaken it too much .... I whack abit of filler in there and smooth it out ( or tiger seal ) ... Il be putting a boot board in there anyway

Cheers james

Cheers mate. I'm going to use the tiger seal and then I'm going to put some cheap light weight carpet in the boot anyhow so it will look ok. I agree that why I didn't want to go to far with the welds for the same reason a good big blob of tiger seal spread out with a filler applicator will look good enough for me. I've done that with most of the welds that will be hidden by other things so they kept as much strength as possible.

You use a gas less mig as well as me don't you ?

Yes mate I use gas less ..... To be honest I've never had any problems with it apart from being a little dirty !

Only reason I went gas less , when I first got the car I didn't have a garage so I was welding in the back and it was always bloody windy :0)

Cheers James

Haha same reason I use gas less having to weld stuff out side. Yeah it's a little dirty but nothing a good grinding session can't fix. Also good for the fact we only have to move the welder and not a gas bottle as well which is good for me being in a single car garage

Yea I'm also in a single garage, I sometimes suspend mine off the ceiling or put it on a shelf where I'm welding so it's out of the way ;0)

Just read you both use gasless and are getting good results, always thought gas was best way to go, mainly reading stuff on here. My mate has a gasless mig so may as well wear his out before I commit to buying one he he, means a few extra quid on panels :proud:

Takes a bit of a while to get power to wire feed sorted and you have to clean up more often but yeah good results with the odd rubbish weld but nothing grinding back and going over to redo can't solve. I bought a 5kg reel from machine mart about 5 months ago and have loads left on it. Cost about £60 but I will definitely have loads left once all the welding of the shell is done to be able to weld in plates for the cage and seat mounting
