Turns out this engines got no tensioner at all and the cam sprocket doesnt take the rubber rings.

Get rid of the rattle for good - convert it to cambelt :)

Funds dont allow in this case im afraid. Sure once replaced it will last a while!

Always, always change the sprockets when you change the chain.  As said, the chain will wear the teeth to suit itself, while that combo may last a while, as soon as you put a new chain on those old sprockets the wear rate will go up massively.

Do what the factory did. Fit a tensioner as the A+.

The sprockets are being replaced, i have been advised to go duplex anyhow but if I stayed simplex i would replace the lot.
