Carpet out for storage, rust to the OS floor and inner sill where the floor has been bent up. The car is raining in and this has corroded from inside out

The rest of it is in really good shape

It would also have an I.D. plate on the seat crossmember if it was a 500.

I'm going to stick it in my parents "internal" garage for an unknown number of years. Could be 2, could be 10. They went ape when I asked them so still working on that one ;D I have loads of spares including a complete engine, ecu alarm and also loads of stuff that's been blasted and painted that's MPi specific. Yep I did check to see if it was a 500 but as you rightly point out, it isn't one - pity as the 500 was the last hurrah :D

I drove it before I bought it specifically to check the gearbox, which is fine. I writhed it into second gear a few times and it went in no problem. When I restore it, it will be "completely originale" but better finished in terms of paint protection and rust proofing. What I found interesting is the way they went with the last Mins, loads of torque and very long gearing. I guess they were trying to add some refinement along with the fat stance look. The other Mini I'm building on the other hand will be a full on "do-er"  I know which car will put a bigger smile on my face ;D

Not really Jase though I do like Tahiti blue. I also have a few liters of basecoat spare. When buying an old car you can't really be choosy about the colour, condition is more important. It has a silver roof which I don't particularly like but the missus loves it. If we all liked the same, life would be boring :D

Pete

Just to add, this thread will die a death real soon, once it's prepped for storage and stuck in my parents garage, many years will pass before it sees the light of day. I want to get my 998 on the road for next year - that's whats important to me

I didn't think you could get any better from your current build thread haha.

I can't -  I split every single seam and to be honest, I'm glad the shell was in such a poor state. At least I know it's as good as it gets  No stone unturned and all that :D

Another great purchase! Will be really interesting to have two very different examples of what's essentially the same car - one built to your dream spec and one completely original.

You clearly have a great taste in colour too by the way.  ;-)
