Hi guys.

Now this question may seem like a stupid one, but bare with me.

Earlier at work, we were discussing tyres for my original metric metro wheels.

These wheels are 315 mm, which equates to about 12.5 inch from edge to edge.

As new metric tyres are impossible to find thesw days, will 12 or 13 inch tyres fit them?

My collegue has 15 inch tyres on his car, and the rim measures just shy of 16inch in diameter. So surely by this rather far fetche logic, you can get imperial (normal) sized tyres on metric wheels?

Anyone who has attempted, succesfully or catastrophically failing, let me know

Cheers
Rob

Really wouldn't risk it personally, you would have no leg to stand on with regard to insurance cover for that modification.

One of my drifter mates bought some metric bmw wheels for his e36, and when he found out they were metric he wanted to machine the lip to fit a standard tyre. But we did some research and it would have weakened the lip far too much so he sold them on.

The bead of the tyre has a steel band inside it, you will not stretch it or shrink it. Your mate's wheels may appear to be just under 16" but you need to measure where the tyre sits on it to know the size and that is behind the flange where you can't see.

Yes dump them and either go for 12 inch as the first metros had or 13 inch if it is for a metro as they took a bit under size with 12's.

unless you have 4 x metric wheels with nearly new tyres on...

But yes, in the aim of preservation of originality, the metric wheels of my metro have been stored with the tyres on and 12" pepper pots fitted.

It's like saying 4x100 PDC wheels will fit a mini... No they wont.. and 12" tyres will split if you try and fit them onto metric rims.
