Hi guys,

I'm just after some advice on getting the wiring loom replaced in my brothers mini MPi. Its been hacked around a lot and mechanics have tried to fix it by pulling stuff out etc but it still doesn't work.

So we need a brand new loom basically. We'll replace the whole thing. I understand they don't sell the looms for these cars any more because the plugs aren't manufactured any more. (Someone from Mini Sport informed me of this).

So basically what do you think our options are?

Buy a second hand and have the loom serviced by a pro?

Where should we do this?

How much might this cost?

Is this really possible?

Any info or advice would be greatly appreciated. Regards,

Dan

Hi Dan, in the same boat as you although mines an spi. Been run as a carb and the wiring has had a few "adjustments" shall we say. I can't get past the alarm/immobilizer.

In the end have gone for a good second hand untouched main loom. That way I have a lot of spare relays, fuses and any extra cables required. Will clean all the contacts as I go.

I thought about buying all the cable and making my own, just a lot of work reinstating all the plugs, but not impossible.

Fingers crossed it does the job.

Take care

Jay.

The plugs are standard automotive types available easily. Once again mini sport talking out their arse.

If you fancy a project, strip the loom out, download the wiring diagrams and get cracking! I've done this a few times on cars, and it's something I intend doing on my cooper sports.

Thanks guys but unfortunately I don't have the time or skills to do it myself. Are there people I could send a secondhand lume to, to be refurbished? Then I could give it to a garage to have it installed to the car?

if u get a loom fitting is quite simple a 2nd hand loom< a new loom does not always come with all the connections so u end up with a few joints which is never good i can fit a loom

How long do you think roughly it would take garage to fit?

Just roughly, just trying to get an idea of cost. Thanks for your reply.

Okay, I thought that might be the case. Im quite far away though, I'm Over Wallop in Hampshire. We need the loom for the interior switches, immobiliser, alarm, engine, ecu all of that so how long do you think that would take you? I can strip the dash out and remove some niggly bits to make your life a bit easier if needs be.

I will get hold of a full loom on eBay.

Then i'll find someone to service the loom (if those kinds of people even exist). Then I'll be in touch. We have a perfect area to do the work underneath shelter also. Can you recommend anyone to service or test the loom for me?

Obviously I can post it round the country.

Thanks so much!

Dan
