Hi, thought id ask incase anyone might know :D

I was just wondering if anyone would know roughly how much a full exterior respray would cost, we have fitted all the panels needed and stripped the car, but just want to know how much roughly it would cost for a prep and respray.

Many Thanks

Depends where you go and how much prep is required.

For a good job, you will be looking around the £2000 mark but some will be less and some will be more.

It all comes down to the prep

The more stripping the cheaper it will be. Obviously painted in two pack paint will be more expensive than cellulose & better.

I would defiantly have a chat with a bodyshop and try to have a look at some of there work. They will tell you pretty quickly after seeing your car how much prep they would need to do

If you are confident with a spray gun and and are not too bothered if it didn't come out brilliantly then go for it.

If it ges wrong, then all you have wasted is a few hundred and some time

if you have all the prep done to a high standard then you could have a go yourself......but its the prep that counts...... :highfive:

You CANNOT spray 2k at home, its a highly toxic paint that requires a fully filtered environment, full air fed mask and paint suit. This is due to the paint being Isocyanate based and any exposure to it (breathing it in, through your eyes/skin) can leave you in a&e, or worse.

But spraying at home with celly is possible and a decent job can be achieved but the key is the prep work, generally speaking its 80% prep, 10% masking and 10% spraying.

Otherwise a bodyshop can quote anything between £1k - £3.5k depending on prep and final finish required, flat colours will be cheaper than metallics and exotic paint jobs.

Two points for a DIY paint job. For obvious reaons they are usually completed over a long time which can lead to problems. The first is treat ANY rust either surface or pits with a good rust killer, wash and prime as per instructions. Make absolutely sure your primer is water proof as many are not, I can fully recommend Davids Zinc 182. Secondly if using filler on any area do not leave it unsealed as filler will start absorbing water straight away and many otherwise good jobs have been ruined by susequent failure due to damp filler causing rust.

PS do not be conned by the metallic fillers unless you REALLY enjoy rubbing down.
