I know Mini's are loved in Japan (Probably more than in Britain), but I was curious as to the value in Japan etc.

Does anyone know any more info?

Thanks,

Corey.

Im guessing they have either taken a dip or are pretty low , due to seeing tidy imported air con cars going for 6k-7k , so they must be at least half that , adding for profit and shipping .

I think a big issue is the Japanese equivalent of an MOT gets more expensive as the car ages so the cost of running a classic is very expensive. But the owners that run minis really have a passion for them it seems. I personally think the Japanese modified minis are the coolest!

Japanese modified anything is usually awesome. Which is why every car trend is just Japan's old news.

The Japanese are fanatic about keeping their cars spotless, of any shape or age, so I'd image they're all in great condition! (Compared to British Minis anyway)

That's odd, because some Japanese people even try to make their small daihatsu's look like a Mini... Would have thought they would have been really expensive so people would resort to lookalikes...

I remember seeing an original ERA turbo, on the internet, with all the turbo bits removed in favour of a Weber DCOE.  :ohno: I really like Japanese modified cars though, they have something about them.

Pictures of Japanese Mini's for sale (Link below)
Many of the older Mini's still have their UK numberplates fitted while many of the newer ones have some interesting and unique mods...........air con does not leave much room under the bonnet though!

Japanese Retro Conversion on 1.3i
Very nice example below of a Japanese Retro conversion on a 1998 Rover Mini Cooper 1.3i with air con (Japan never got the MPI front rad).........SU carb, 10" wheels/discs, centre speedo dash, toggle switches, Mk1 indicator/column, wing mirrors, external hinges, door check straps, rounded door corner at "A" panel base, early style full front valance and even sliding windows!

Back in 2012 there was a TMF thread about 6 scrap Mini's in Japan where the strict expensive MOT sends many cars to be scrapped early......which look pretty good in the photos! :ohno:

One problem with owning a mini in Japan is they are too big for the "Kei Class" which gives you cheap registration fees and parking. You've got to be dedicated to keep one on the road. The Shaken test each year is also very expensive for old cars...

Japanese are big fans and fanatical collectors of early minis, plenty of Mk1 Coopers and the like have headed east.

There was a big market the other way for a time in Discovery 1s being brought into the UK at around 8-9 years old (around the time of needing their big MOT type test). Anyone who knows Landrovers knows that a Disco 1s ability to rust could put a classic mini to shame.  O_O

My dad bought one at 9 years old and it was absoloutely mint - like a one year old and ran it for 7 years. Just replaced with a Skoda Yeti!!!

Most I have seen have been well cared for with attention to detail throughout due to their strict testing rules.  I would rather buy a Japanese import than any Mini in the UK as its far too easy to get a crap car through an MOT here
