Just found out that my car was first registered at Kennings LTD Chesterfield for a year before moving to Northern-Ireland.

Does anyone have any information or pictures of the Kennings dealership

Thanks

They used to be in Barkers Lane, Chesterfield. Later the name changed to Sixt-Kennings.

I used to have a client whose offices were right opposite Kennings, but that was in the 1970's.

Try Google Earth for a fairly current view of Barkers Lane.

Kennings had numerous places in chesterfield. They did all manor of things eg the hire business was from another part of chesterfield, near the Sweet factory. I think Barkers Lane may have been tyres.

My guess is that it came from the showroom off Sheffield Road. It is no longer there. The area has been redeveloped and includes the new Chesterfield FC ground.

Not just Chesterfield, but all over that part of the country... I had a Monetgo in 1990 which originated from Kennings in Sheffield.

I bought a new 1000cc Mini in 1976 from Kennings in Sheffield
It was just after they introduced the striped upholstery and reversing lights in the rear cluster.
There were also improvements to the sound insulation.
The sales pitch was 'More quiet, more calm'
The colour was russet brown, not very fashionable today but I loved it.
But I digress.......

There was a George Kenning on Chatsworth Road Chesterfield but they were Ford dealers in the seventies and eighties.
I believe they are now called GK Group with quite a few branches over the country.

Regards
Mike.

At the request of GKs workshop I remember going to the main parts depot in Dronfield to get hydro displacers in the early 90s

That was quite unusual as back then showrooms had a properly stocked workshop - unlike today where everything is obtained to order

I think Kennings were quite widespread.

What I meant about their numerous places in Chesterfield was that they didn't just sell cars. They did all sorts of vehicle related things from various sites around the place.
