I'm amazed no-one has taken your hand off by now - there always seems to be someone looking for one on the owners club.
Was the engine a remote change? the gear linkage looks a little odd compared to the one that was in mine when it was still A-Series powered. A linkage for a rod-change box (which lets face it is most likely what people will fit) is hardly a difficult thing to make though and the absolute worst case is that you change to something like I've used with cables (MGF selector and cables). It's fiddly but not hard or expensive.
If I didn't have a garage full of cars I'd be tempted to take it as an investment and just throw a 998 in and get it back on the road for a quick profit as I think the fact that it's not running and driving is the only reason it's not gone already.

im a little surprised its still here, but im going to ebay it for grater coverage.
it was a rod change box mate, the big forked bit bolted to either side of the box and the longer rod just goes down onto the box.
