I had a non start on an MPI after a restoration and it turned out to be the wiring plugs on the ecu.
Unplugged them, plugged them back in and hey presto.

I'd love to see the big smile on your face when it finally fires
edited to add: is it new fuel? I've a car which has sat a long time and have read a lot about fuel going off in quite a short period of time... ...though one would have thought it'd still cough or try and run!

Are your injectors firing ? (the power to them can be checked with an LED)
Have you tried spraying easy start into the throttle body ?

IT'S ALIVE!
Finally got the engine running. I took Ben_O's advice and checked the connectors on the ECU, and it looked like the red connector wasn't quite home. I took both of the off, and reconnected, as well as unplugging/re-pluging any other connectors I could see. I squirted some easy start into the intake just to be sure and it fired into life! Very happy. What I wasn't happy about was the small oil leak from the take off for the pressure gauge. I had to take the oil filter off to get to it and tighten it up. Obviously there is still no coolant in it, so could only run it for 30 seconds before I got scared...
Have replaced the gasket in the thermostat housing as they were leaking, so will top up with coolant next time and run the cam bearing in for 20 mins

Back on it.
Fist job was to add the missing stickers/bits from the engine bay that I couldn't make myself (thanks to SMiffys Bits). Then filled the car with coolant, rolled it out of the unit and attempted to start it...
Had good oil pressure and was also charging well. I did find the cause of the smoke... the rocker cover gasket was on properly!
I fixed that and the smoke was gone.
As you can tell, there is an issue with the throttle sticking open when you rev it... I initially thought it was because the cable was sticking, but removing it and tweaking didn't help
It started raining, so drove it around a bit for fun and back into the unit.
Got the other arches on
That'll do for now!
The head gasket is leaking oil/coolant, so I will have to take that off soon

I'd remove the white and green Manifolw stickers they put around the pipes on your exhaust before they melt their way on there and make a mess. Not quite sure why they're put on there in the first place.
