Carpet day today. I'm sure most of us have broken plastic seat runners on the carpet. That just won't do! I got the replacement from Newton Commercial. The old carpet needed a bit of work. I stuck some of the underlay back as well as the plastic that protects the rear loom that runs along the floor:
The old runners are quite easy to pull off as they had gone rusty!
Started putting them in. They use split rivets, so you have to knock them in from the back. I used a punch I have to get the pins apart and then finish with the hammer. I also put a bit of gaffer tape on the back to cover the bare pins
Much better! And just for a laugh I put down the Cooper floor mats I got ages ago but never put in the car:
very nice work on replacing the plastic on the carpet ,remember to rub down your rear seat frames and paint them or youl have the rust marks straight back ,

Back to some actual car work...
All I've done is clean up the main fusebox wiring
Obviously a dirty sticker simply will not do, so made a new one!
Cleaned up the wire and tapped it all back up. It was one of those annoying things I saw every time I opened the bonnet. I could just see some thick red wire and it looked wrong, so taped over it
Much happier :)

Some bits and bobs done, nothing major. Started work on the main loom. I'm adding a heated front screen, central locking and some other bits. I've added a couple of extra fuses to the main box.
Noticed the sticker was manky so made a new one:
I've spliced in the central locking loom so it connects just behind the rev counter. Will run it around the back of the dash with the other looms:
I needed to add a relay for the heated front screen so got a timed one. Luckily the relay bracket in the car only has 4 relays, but space for 5!
You can't get the original relay brackets any more, but luckily the centre one already has a hole in it, so added a new relay socket there
All lined up!
I also made a start on the heated panel that directs the air. Old one was manky and the foam has all but fallen apart.
So I used my sticker machine to cut out the foam to the same sizes and popped them on:
Sorted!

Such amazing attention to detail, that I've never seen before!
Really excited to see this come together, one of the absolute best out there.

Not done much recently, but did get the heater motor finished. Still need to get a small amount of overspray off the front, but that'll be easy:
But in other news the body is going off to the paint shop at the end of the week! Hopefully painted by the end of June. With the shell out of the way I can get some space back to build some more of the car up, namely the front subframe with engine (will drop the body over the top)

May I ask, with all this attention to detail and cleanliness; why wouldn't you weld up the un-used wiper holes for LHD wipers?

Because they were there when it left the factory. ?

ok back to bits and bobs. Remade the sticker that goes under the airbox:
Then I decided to add a small bit of foam to the bottom of the glove box:
Might take it out if it doesn't work/look right. I never really used the glove box (just had a bag of dry wet wipes in it!)
As the time for putting it all back together gets close, I still have a load of stuff to refurbish. Started with the steering rack U bolts:
Added new nuts and the anti friction plastic Also got a nice fat parcel from Minispares!
Also cleaned up the subframe tower bolts:
I also tried to get the boot lid to sit a bit more flush, but didn't have much luck:

Well, a simple post but a big one... It finally went to get painted! Rolled it out the garage one last time:
Then off she went to the paint shop
Hopefully back near the end of June
