Well....
Incase anyone was wondering whats going on... I've moved house! Its only taken 5 months since the offer went in...
Anyway, I managed to move the shell from the garage to its new home in Gloucestershire:
I'll be getting a local company to paint it as the guy I had lined up just lost interest!

Jesus. Done pretty much nothing on the car...
Decided to get the block out and give it a lick of paint. This was chemically cleaned at the engine builders, so just gave it a rub down with white spirit and gave it a lick of paint:
Just need to figure a way how to build it without a stand...

I built it on its side then painted it... again. Just remember to clean the bores out with brake cleaner as you'd be surprised how much metal dust is in those cross hatchings!

Been having some fun with piston ring gaps. And by fun I mean a nightmare...
The first one i measured up cam in with a gap of around 0.55mm, which is way out of spec according to the Haynes manual. BUT, the engine has 2 thou worth of wear in the bores according to the engine builder. I've been told that the ring gap can increase by 3 thou for every thou of wear, so by that calculation I am allowed a maximum gap of 0.60mm... So good to go....?

The feeler gauge will change resistance as it goes into the gap. Feedback from when my engine was built was they weren't square, but my gaps needed taking out for boost.
I'll have to double check...

As it was sunny I decided to give the block a wash. It did have a chemical clean, but it has been sitting in a box for almost a year..
I'm glad I did as all that stuff came out of it!
Next job was the cylinder head. I've got the Swift tune SW5-7 cam. I got the kit with the double springs. The Cooper S head already had double springs in it, but as I don't know what strength they are (I did ask Minisport what they were but they never got back to me...) I thought it was safer to get the right springs for the cam.
I also lapped all the valves in as they were out anyway (didn't take any pics) The valves were all in great condition :)
If I can find the crank bearings tomorrow I might start building the block...
