Hi!

Sprayed some primer today, and noticed a lot of these scratches. Are these normal to show up and will they be filled out when spraying the basecoat etc?

Or do I need to re-sand the car? Or should I filler each scratch?

Thanks

Those scratches were too deep to prime over. Block the primer down and apply more if they are still visable. The primer will then fill them. Be aware of sinkage though and allow time for the primer and filler to do its stuff.

Is that painting over filler, I also presume its aerosol primer as it has no filling power, that will show up through base and clear coat.
You really need to sand the filler smoother you could flatten it and put on a layer of upol gold or similar product and flat again finishing with p240 minimum before applying a coat of high build primer,

It seems like I'll be sanding again tomorrow :P

What grit should I use? ( I'll be getting a electric sander I think, just to make life easier).

What part of the car is it, I block sanded all filler on larger areas by hand with a large block to keep it as flat as possible, I would use mirka abranet paper as I find it very good, you want to finish filler with p240 as a minimum, but dependant upon how much sanding or shaping is required anything from p80 upwards can play a part In getting it ready for paint.
After primer I guide coated, flatted with p320 repaired any problems then guide coated again, flatted with p400 or p500 abranet with my da. After this I applied top coats.

Its the side of a door :P Didn't go any higher than 180 with a sanding block :P

Reccomend a DA sander massively! After doing all the prep on myini by hand, I decided I'd buy one. Tried it out and realised id wasted the last few weeks and my fingertips!

I went to b&q and brought a nice Bosch 125mm one. Did a great job and was only £50

Even if you have a DA blocks still need to be used in prep to get the panels flat!

Filler work should never really be gone over with a da sander as you loose the "straightness" blocks used up to 320 before primer should sort it out. Then block the primer with 320 then da sand it with 500 with an interface pad before basecoat
