Hi I brought a 1960 Morris mini minor and all I have with it is the original logbook 1st owner and a heritage certificate. I sent them a v62 form explaining I am the new owner and filling the sheet in. They have replied saying they want photos of the chassis plate and where is it located. I have looked on the mini and I can only find the body number bmk 10027. I also looked on the top of the rad shroud for the plate and it's not there. Can anyone tell me was they stamped on the panels that early or did they still have plates? Where else can I check on the body. I take it if I can not find it I am stuffed? It's my first time doing all this thanks tom

They where all riveted on plates at that age. I don't think they started stamping the number into the scuttle panel until the 80s.

If you haven't got the plate it may be a case of trailering the car to a DVLA inspection centre so they can view the car in person. They would most likely check the body number on the car against the heritage certificate and issue the logbook.

Alternatively they may allow you to send them a scan of the certificate and a picture of the body mumber.

Sand down the cross member strengthening panel on the drivers side in the engine bay chassis number should be stamped there.

The chassis plate, with the chassis number on should be attached to the radiator shroud. This is not the body number. If you have the logbook and the Heritage certificate then you will have this number. Morris ones were embossed with the number (raised reverse stamped nos).
Get a plate from Minimail, rivet it onto the top of the shroud. Take pics.
I assume that the DVLA want proof you actually have the physical vehicle as well as the paperwork.
See Minimail for details http://www.minimail....sis-vin-plates/

Early cars did not have chassis numbers stamped into the body.
From 1979 VIN nos replaced chassis numbers and this was when the requirement to stamp the body with the VIN number started.

Minimail has all the detail info about chassis nos, commission nos and VIN nos

If thats what you think carry on. I have identified two early cars a 1959 and a 1960 mini this way. I was informed of the chassis number stamping by the 59 register

Morris ones were embossed with the number (raised reverse stamped nos).

Not necessarily, saloons built at Cowley have characters stamped from above. Only Longbridge built saloons and all Morris Travellers, Coopers etc. which were built at Longbridge have the embossed characters.

The chassis plate should be screwed on not riveted.
