I think it looks good. I'd like to do my people carrier with it but I doubt the rest of the family would be seen dead in it.

As much as this will infuriate people, i think it looks bloody ridiculous. I know each to their own and all that, and i completely understand that patina can make a car look great. Real patina, made from years of real use, like old jags, land rovers, and so forth, looks fab, fake ageing looks rubbish in the same way that the current trend of 'shabby chic' on furniture looks rubbish!

It seems more of an American thing really, especially on the Beetle scene. The Rat look thing of sealing in a little surface rust with clear coat I can just about understand, especially in dry climates where stuff lasts for decades without rusting through. But the deliberate rusting then sealing, no, I just don't get that. I think in the UK climate the association is that rust really is the deathknell of any old car, so the idea of a very rusty, albeit sound, car isn't very appealing.

In short, fine on a Cal beetle, looks dreadful over here.

The patina effect looks good on certain cars, when it's real rust with clear coat.

But not sure about making a whole car look rusty.
