I need to buy some exhaust heat shield (the stick-on type for the bodywork) but I am really not sure what the best stuff to use is. Can I have some recommendations please?

I need to get something that actually works (not just looks like it will) as it will need to go on the bulkhead and exhaust tunnel of the Midas, which is of course made of fibreglass. I don't want to pay through the nose but I do also realise that you can't buy this stuff cheaply!

Thanks in advance.

There are a number of ways to look at this. All you really need to do is mount a sheet of alloy with an air gap between it and th fiberglass.

There are some expensive stick on ones. I forget where from but there was a post on here about one gold one.

Hmmm think that the gold one might be a bit unnecessary :ohno:

Gold is one of the best heat reflectors. But be careful as there's some cheap rubbish out there.

Not sure if it would work but for a cheep alternative would adhesive aluminum duct tape be any good?
It's reflective, very sticky, will mould to most shapes, it's only a mill to two thick and come in on roll for only a few ££.

You get 3 different levels of insulation depending on your needs.

Could you use an old fire blanket? Maybe a bit cheaper.
Not sure how you would attach to body tho

Then why do you think you need any?

What's different on yours to other plastic tubs?

Interested as I will be working on one later this year.

Nick I was referring to the gold being ott compared to the standard tape that Demon Tweeks do. I didn't make it especially clear.

My bulkhead was a little scorched so I don't want that to happen again. Tempted to try the tape that DT do - I do not really want to pay through the nose for something else that will do the same job. for something

Demon Tweeks also do both Cirrus and Nimbus. The 3 layer Cirrus is great, it's rigid so you can form a shape that it will hold and mount it to the car on ceramic spacers so there is no conduction path. This is the sort of thing high performance production cars use. You could also look at using the standard cat heat shields from an MPi which are a similar material. Gold is indeed an excellent reflector, but I believe Reflect-A-Gold is just gold coloured and is simply aluminised fibreglass. At that price ($20 per square foot from the manufacturer) I can't imagine they are vaporising real gold onto it.
