Hi,
I've cut that off mine, no problems as said above not needed with an pre-engaged starter.
Have got a lump of alloy to get welded in there to plug the hole.
Cheers

With a pre-engaged starter I wouldn't hesitate in lopping the end off the casing. They don't protrude that far past the flywheel and do have some amount of shrouding to the pinion.
The casing is still the 50's design suited to the inertia starter with a much longer nose and more finger biting ability
In fact, if you wanted it to be really neat, you could probably cut it back as far as the starter and then either get a plate tigged on or find a suitable rubber grommet such as:

(obviously you'd need to cut the casing at the point for the resulting hole to be the right size for the grommet).
Thanks for that, Gra! It did cross my mind to put a plate over it, but i think you're just helped me with a few other room issues in that area!!

This is one packed engine bay but the level detail is awesome nice work mate!

Just read this from the beginning, great work. Certainly a man after my own heart with the detailing
I must say I most love the fact that it looks more OEM than OEM!

Thank you! One for enduring page after page of me either achieving something or getting utterly frustrated lol. My overall aim was a car that was utterly rapid and looked OEM+ on the outside, and an engine bay that people double take at.

Been following your progress on instagram and here. Mini is looking really smart. Can’t wait to see this in the metal at a show

but its nice to see people's appreciation for the work.
Add me to that long list. This is a wonderful piece of engineering (it feels a bit more than a car). Thank you for updating us step by step.

Are you running the standard gearbox as was originally in the car - with the o/e spec diff ratio? Not sure whether I missed it further back in the thread!
