Hope I'm posting in the right section.

I'm after a 1/2" airless, cordless impact gun.

I've looked at a few but have not owned one. Had a go on a snap-on one but it's pricey for what I want it for, could justify it if I was using it constantly on a daily basis. I've got and use a air powered but that's obviously used in my garage due to the compressor!

Any one got one? I know De-Walt and Ryobi do them. I'm in the mid range market budget i guess.

Not after something that will break or be useless. So robust and powerful, man for the job. 1/2"', No cheapies or eBay numbers.... Will be bought to use on my Mini (of course) and ST205 Celica GT-four that gets track and race use, hence needing a cordless, airless impact.

What do you use, or have used? Recommendations?

We have a 1/2 amd a 3/8 De-Walt 19V one at work, never fails, the 1/2 was about £150 but just as good as the £400 Snap-On ones

Makita 18V:

I use the 251 which handles most things, but the 450 does have more oomph for really tight stuff.

I've had 3 of these...

https://www.machinem...impact-wrench-2

they are ok for diy, doing wheel nuts and that sort of job but don't withstand everyday use like an air impact will... Biggest problem with them is the battery... NiCd is old tech' when it comes to batteries, and will last about a year, they were not overly powerful either, being only 220nm...

If you can find something kicking out 400 to 500nm then that be more useful.

I have used both a Clarke and dewalt impact gun, the Clarke was terrible could barely undo my wheel nuts let alone anything else!
The dewalt one was great, really powerful and nice to use.

Would recommend a dewalt anyday

I use my snap on 18v one daily, and it gets used hard being a plant fitter, i have tried a few others but nothing seems to come close, one of the other guys has a sealey 24v gun which seems OK.
I guess the sealey one would be fine if you aren't likely to be using it hard.

I'm also a plant fitter and use a snap on 18v ni cd daily with no problems. Others at work have the Milwaukee 18v and to be fair to it, it undoes everything my snap on one does

Milwaukee Milwaukee Milwaukee

2 guys in my garage, one bought a snap-on impact gun and the other bought a Milwaukee, its been 5 months and the snap on battery is showing signs of "age" doesn't last long at all. its not just his either. the MOT tester round the corner also has a Snap-on gun (same battery) also showing signs of wear. And the Bloke with the Milwaukee will still have a well charged battery at the end of the week after constant use. It comes with a battery condition indicator and packs quite a punch, maybe not as much as the Snap-on one but how often do you come across a bolt tighter than 1354nm (1000 ft-lb).   Also has a brushles motor

EDIT:http://www.ebay.co.u...=item20f1e8e2c8

 comes with 2 battery's

I've been looking at buying one if these Dewalt ones as it uses the same batteries as my drills. It's also got a pretty decent Max toque figure at 540Nm.

We use Snap-On ones at work, and too be honest i think there pants. Okay at first, but 6 months down the line all of the 4 batteries are on there way out, with some barely useful, the bearings have gone in one of the guns and it makes a bloody awful noise when in use, trigger switch is knackered on the other one as it seems to make up its mind when it wants too work or not, and the LED's on both have packed up. Plus as usual, Snap On's lifetime warranty is laughable! But there not my guns so i dont really care too much! :P

At home and for all private and personal work i have a Milwaukee, one of the big 4.0ah buggers that Brad mentioned earlier, superb bit of kit. Batteries are far superior, and the torque figure is ridiculous, much stronger than the Snap On guns, plus they hold this figure for longer in use, down too the batteries i guess.

So stay away from Snap-On, and unfortunately recently i'd have too say the same about nearly all of there gear... And look elsewhere, and if its within budget, i'd wholeheartedly recommend Milwaukee.

Thanks for the input guys. Much appreciated.

It's a throw up between the Milwaukee and de-Walt

Metabo here. 5.2Ah batteries which just last ages. Seems to do the job but nothing to compare against.
