So I did something dumb and bought a set of Lucas LR8 spotlights off ebay. They were ridiculously cheap and the postage was also cheap, so I figured, why not. They were an optional extra on the 1275 E in the 1980s and I know they look good on a Mini Clubman. Best part, they arrived in a week, all the way from the UK! :D

Here are some pictures of them :)

Personally I like the clubman clean and uncluttered - it's always a problem to stand back and say "It's finished"! :-)

Perhaps, but the point of the mod is that it'd be reversible. So if I do decide that I don't like spotlights on the front of the car, I can always remove them :)

Thanks man :) Yeah, I hope so too. Some autosol metal polish and a couple of hours of polishing should work well.

Here's an image of LR8s fitted to a 1275 E from the catalog from 1980.

Furry seat covers, furry seat covers, we want furry seat covers!!

oh boy, they're going to be fun on hot day.

Good find with 2xLR8.     Kept looking & could only find 1xLR8 + 1xFT8 on eBay.

Surely it would be better to have one fog and one spot light? For days when there is a lot of fog?

Fog in the UK -very possible at times. Fog in Cape Town? -I suppose so being on the coast.

The (B. Poynter Print) Catalogue says Spotlights, so 2xLR8 would appear to be correct. (Ref: previous conversations on poss Leykor brochures -i wonder if Poynter also did a SA 1275GT catalogue?? Has Jared looked into this?)

Yeah, that's true. All the original 1275 Es that I've seen, had two LR8s, not one fog and one spot light.

I would think he has. Documentation on the GT in SA is pretty bad, since they had such a short run of production, and it was during the changeover period for the different models.

I have looked and haven't found anything so far. I'm not even sure what documentation came with the cars with regards to owner's manual etc. I'll need to have a look through some old magazines from the era.

It is. Hot property in SA now. Couldn't give them away a couple years ago.

So we had a fun day today... Not :( We decided today would be the day we fitted the twin carbs, but we ended up spending a good hour trying to swap the manifold gasket, then the exhaust manifold wouldn't line up and lastly, the carb manifold didn't fit. So we refitted the single HS4 carb and packed away the twins... again. Now the next plan is the take a grinder and modify the exhaust manifold flanges. Although given all the crappy issues so far, I'm not even sure that will solve the problem.

Square lights on the square clubby front always look good  :mrcool: Thats  shame about the twin carb problems, are the flanges just too big to all fit together?
