for rollering it says 10 percent thinners on the tin but people on here have been using more possibly 20-30%

I kinda get the gist of this roller painting thing. What I don't get is how you do the fiddly bits. It must be fine on the big open stretches, but window rims and sills? How do u do them with a roller? :withstupid:

Hey everyone. Spraying looks good Bert, looks very good infact mate, congrats! :withstupid: SOme more info is needed really on this thread about spraying as i get lots of Pm's asking how to spray it and i just don't know i'm afraid as I'm rollering mine.

I'll have some more pictures soon of fresh paint, My nightmare of fitting a Flip front has (after much swearing, cursing, dust and grinding) has come to a rather tasty conclusion and i'm nearly happy with it so i can get some more coats down at last,

I've mentioned this loads,... sills aren't a a problem.. which part is fiddly on a sill? the roller is a very versatile tool and gets into all the nooks and crannies. if you really struggle use a 'pure birstle' artists brush, works a treat :withstupid:

fiddly bits...for the first coat i cut up a sponge and used that, to be honest as retro said you can get to most crevices with the roller. i painted my interior with a brush and didn't thin the paint at all. and the finish was real good anyway.

Gotta say after rollering and spraying it on i'd 100% definately reccomend spraying it on. Its a lot quicker, the finish is miles better and it is a lot less prone to flaking, a problem a few folks ive spoken to have had a problem with.

I'd recommend around 15-20% thinning for spraying, all depends on the temperature.

Also, make sure the paint is REALLY well mixed.

And for the people who say spraying uses so much paint, dont be silly. 2.5l of the stuff? you could paint it twice :withstupid:

Bert, Have you managed to get around the problem with this paint flashing off on top and not underneath>? i never had this problem when rollering becuase i made sure the coats were nice and thin. but spraying is much thicker,.. i'd be worried that the paint on top would harden causing the underneath to stay un-cured. have you found a way round?.

Finish looks very good mate.

i just sprayed on in light coats, haven't had any problems with flashing this way.
I left it for about 5 days (the rusto guidelines state upto 7 days to fully go off!)
and it gone rock solid. Much better than rollering, no need to even flat it really.

to be honest, from reading about the difficulties with water based paint on the other thread,
i reckon rustoleum has a BIG future.....

well i'd already got a decent coverage of paint from rollering the car so i had good
base to start with, just needed a good finish. Went round a few times with the gun.
Left it for 5 days to go off, flatted out a couple of runs
And banged another coat on.

job done :D
