I've also done a bit more on mine and I haven’t had to mix up any more fresh paint. As I’ve been putting the roller head back into the sealed plastic packet, so it hasn’t dried up this time. Going ok, so long as I don’t play around it one area for too long and just let it settle it’s fine.

yeah you can't mess with it too much, glad to hear it's going well mate, i've filled the roller with the leftovers of the batch i made up today and cling filmed it, got the ratio just right today. :D

Hi,

after reading thisI think I'm going to give it a go myself,

Just wandering how well this is standing up,are the first bits you did still looking good?

is hammerite smooth ok for this technique or rustoleum the best for the job?

Cheers

Hammerite is tried and tested by the late shaun smith <was that his name?> he had a project thread on here before his life was tragecally cut short by a car accident. He used hammerite smooth with thinners and sprayed it on good results, but left it a good while to harden fully before he polished it etc.

the last picture i posted was the first section of the car to be done, back end and bootlid. still looks good! needs a clean now though as i've been concentrating on other bits. ;)

here's some pics i just took so you get an idea of how much i've done so far.

As yet, the ONLY bit finished (because i'm lazy ;)) are the back panel and boot. I've just skimmed a bit of filler into the drivers side Apanel, the rear quarters, though uber shiny are not done and need another coat and a final flat back before the super shiny stuff happens, scuttle is the same.

side....

front... rear quarter is quite amazing considering NO finishing flatting etc has been done yet.

booty end... mmmm

I think might give her a clean and polish.. then start waxing soon. As sais, A-panels and scuttle are the next thing to get finished on the list.

**edit**, click on the pics to see them with clarity, the image resizing that TMF does cripples the quality.

can i ask how well this technique would work for an exterior paint job only?? I can't quite tell if you have done the interior the same colour or not?? If you are doing the interior a different colour how are you joining the interior colour to the exterior colour??

Also i have read most of this thread and havn't seen one so could i be cheeky and ask for a really simple step by step just so i'm not going to miss any vital stages??

eg. rub down existing paint with xxx wet n dry
degrease area
paint
rub down with xxx

(as you can see i dont quite understand all the stages)

also what do you use as the thinner or is that what the white spirit is for??

Well I'm going to get myself down to b&q tonight and give this a go, i'll start on the roof as it has a rather bad black spray job. Do you know if anyone has rollered with hammerite yet?

I read Shawn Smiths project thread a little while ago and it was a real shock when you got to the end and it said about his accident, makes you think.....

Well I'm shocked I read the whole thread last night and I had to come back today to rad some more. I have just PM'd a fellow local club member who is getting some wings fitted but didn't want to fork out for the cost of a pro respray. I too would like a rough step-by-step bullet point guide....

oh the only other thing I was thinking could you use one of those airless sprayers with this stuff.

is the mix 80 paint and 20 white spirit?

DOes look very cool, I was talking to my granddad and they use to hand paint when he worked as a coach building just after the war....
