Quicky for any Focus fans, I've had a google for reviews and just wanted some advice on here if possible?

I'm looking at a 2012 or 2013 Focus 1.6 TDCITitanium (hopefully tomorrow) and wondered if anyone on here owns one?

The ones I'm looking at are both on about 20-25,000 miles.  It'll be used as a works car for driving mainly motorway miles really, but just want to know if anyone knows much about them. From the reviews they seem to be a decent car?

How do they compare to the VW Passat of a similar age/spec?  The dealer I'm looking at also has a 1.6TDI Bluemotion for a similar price (slightly higher miles at 34k).

It's not for me Lynz, I'm hopefully getting an RS4 Avant for me as a daily some time soon.

This is more of a pool car ting.  So it won't be me using it all the time. I think the Passat looks like the better option to be honest.

Buy the Passat

I had that engine in a new 2012 C Max, only new car I've ever rejected. It's so underpowered and badly geared its a death trap! You'll get nowhere near the published economy figures either.

It was so dangerous pulling out of my road into a 60 zone that I was regularly almost shunted and frequently honked because I couldn't pull away quick enough. The flat spot between 1st and 2nd was well publicised and ford did an update in in late 2013. After six terrifying weeks I finally gave the car back to ford, lost almost £3000 and have had German diesels ever since.

Your money though.

Passat every time, build quality is way better and if you come to sell it in a couple of years it will be worth than £10.

I hadn't really considered the lack of power if I'm honest. Maybe the 2.0 tdi Passat is a better option than either of the 1.6s above?

That's not bad, is it? I'm so used to only spending a few hundred quid on cars that I have NO idea of current values

Hi,

I've got a '61 plate 1.6tdci econetic Focus in Titanium trim (5 door hatch) and it's a very good car.

Comes with DAB radio, dual zone climate control, cruise control and handles like a well set-up Mini and is surprisingly good fun around twisty "B" roads etc. Also has a 6 speed gearbox and lugs very well from about 1400rpm onwards.....I rather like it!!

Cheers, Steve.

I've not driven the new Focus but a couple of mates have them and like them. Not car people though so can't really trust their opinion.

As for the Passat, I had an estate as a hire car for work a few months back. Big co for table cars and the one I had was very well specced. I can't remember if it was petrol or diesel though.

I'd be tempted by the Passat if I had to get something that new.

Vw every time, the Ford car diesel range all now appear to be Peugeot/Citroën engines. Which appear ok for the first few years but after that begin to show they're age. Also if undertaking maintenance yourself, Ford don't have an inline primer in the fuel system. Which makes filter changes and fuel system repairs a mare. But this is only a judgement made, working on different makes and models daily, having not actually owned either.

I would avoid a diesel auto. I've got a 64 plate 2.0d auto A class at the mo and it's bloody awful. It's a 7 speed and it is so dim witted and slow to react to throttle responses. You end up having to press harder causing it to jump down 2 cogs throwing the revs up too high. although the mpg isn't too bad. Only done 400 miles and already getting 45mpg (only do shortish journeys)

Have you considered a mondeo instead of a focus? Not driven one personally but they alway get good reviews for handling and spec etc.

I'm hoping to avoid autos. But one of the people that will potentially be driving it "can't do manuals."
