Would like to pick some brains if possible.

Just a general query if anyone has used this business before?.
Saw a nice 88 city on there but was gone when contacted about it.
Is the guy genuine?.

Still keeping an eye out for the next Davemobile :)

His business is literally 2 minutes from me (Wordsley, West Mids) have heard good and bad things about him. His mechanical work is carried out by a Chap in Kidderminster who I have had dealings with and to be honest I will not be dealing with him again. Asked him to remove the first motion outer race from my flywheel housing and he completely destroyed said housing also on collection I had to deal with his daughter because he couldn't be arsed not a problem you maybe thinking but considering she was only 6 or 7 years old gives you some idea how this professional business is conducted. I didn't find out about the problem he had caused for a couple of months as this was a small part of a complete engine rebuild, recess for outer race was 0.010" out of round.

Bearing in mind i'm wary of most people's work until i see them doing stuff for myself, lol.

Thanks for the head's up Stu, its looking like a harder task than i thought to find what looks like a suitably priced car from a place most people trust.

I'm still keeping options open but will have to put my cynical head on when viewing.

It could be worse, asked a local lad how much he wanted for a roundnose parked up in town yesterday, almost choked when he said 4k.....needed about 2k spending just to fix most stuff, let alone make it tidy, nice lad though.

Best to be on the cynical side Dave had my eyes opened on more than that occasion believe me. Still waiting myself for the right car to come along, Got an engine and all the front end (Subframe, brakes, suspension etc. Now rebuilt) Am prepared to wait not to worried about the mechanical side of things it's the shell though I'm not under any illusions there either.

to be fair, if people just ask a price when it's not for sale then a lot of people just say a silly price. Sometimes it works. I had a Landrover for a week when a guy asked me if it was for sale in a petrol station. I told him it could be for £2000 and he was round with the money that night. I had paid £800 for it. I was a student at the time and bought a mk3 escort and an old GSXR1100r (slabside one). Wish I still had the gixxer.

I am sure he has relocated premises down to the coast, and if want advice on Paulhiggs cars, then Jez off this site used to do work for him.
My own experience when i asked if he did reaming for replacing rear radius arm bearing shaft, from a young lad on phone, was No. So they apparently cannot replace these parts on a mini?

2 of my friends have bought Mini's from Paul Higgs and they have turned out to be complete rust buckets with endless problems. They may look good for the money but they clearly aren't. This is just what I've seen so make your own mind up.

If this is the same guy who used to operate near b'ham then i bought mine from him a year ago. Decent price and ive had no major dramas. My only drama was that the tyres it came with were perished and one shredded on te M1 at 70mph a month after i bought it. When i tried to contact him to complain about this i didnt get anywhere.

As i said, no massive dramas with the car but it was the one in the best condition that he had, few bits of rust but i suppose there always will be. Go and have a look at what hes got. I took my grandfather who used to race minis and he was a massive help pointing out problem cars as i had no idea at the time. You never know, you might find a little gem.

I brought my mayfair off him just before he relocated down south. I had no issues with my car. Just make sure you have a really good look over any car you view.

Nice enough guy but don't trust a word he says!
Any "full" mot he gives a car is worthless .... Just give any car he selling a good and proper check.
I bought mine from there before he relocated, no way she should of got any mot the state she was in. Filler and soundproofing used to cover up many horrors! Make sure you rip up carpet and soundproofing to check for problems.
Lucky for me I had a lot of help to get her safe enough to go back on the road.
: )

The biggest thing with regarding to buying any car no matter who from is take your time and inspecting it. If the seller is being pushy either walk away or tell him you want plenty of time to look at the vehicle. I spent an hour going round Paddy. I knew there was issues but I took that onboard with regards to the final price.

So even suspect garages may hide a gem but if in doubt and it looks too good to be true walk away.
