I think this topic has come up before so apologies if this is a repeat.

I'm thinking of getting a dash cam. Haven't really started much research into it yet but thought I would float it out there to see if there are any recommendations or ones to avoid.

I'm not looking to spend hundreds of pounds, but would be nice to have one that records speed / time and date etc

Also would be good if there are any that cover multiple angles. I.e. Like side window rather than just straight ahead.

Spotted this online
1080p
170 degrees angle

If you have a smart phone, you already have a dash cam....

I use an App called Autoguard,

Good point. Never thought of that.
How do you securely mount it? I have an iphone 5 and have brought a mount before but was rubbish and vibrated a lot causing it to fall off the screen.

My thought is that a purpose made dash cam with a loop recording feature means that I won't eat up my phone memory (only have the 16 GB) and it's normally full of photos

I mounted mine on a cheap windscreen sucker thing by the rear view. They don't vibrate that much if the phone is close to the mount... not the stupid things which have long flexible arms...

I set it so it automatically started recording when it docked with the radio via bluetooth, so it was always recording.

Don't know if this particular app is available for Iphones, but I remember the gadget show did a piece on them a while ago....

Had a quick search in the App Store. That particular app isn't available but there are others

The Mobius something or other is highly recommended out there. Prices just keep going up. Added it to my Amazon Wishlist around the £55 mark and now it's £65+!

Be wary of something that records your speed. If you do get into a collision and you're over the speed limit, that could work against you in court.

That's the bugger. The last dash cam thread I saw posted had that linked to in another forum and the quality was very impressive. I think the biggest things to look out for are night time quality and light-to-dark quality.

Check out a guy on YouTube called Techmoan. Dash cam reviews are his forté. Can't view the video you posted due to privacy settings. That may have something to do with me being on my phone, though.

The embed won't work, but I can see it if I click on the thumbnail image.

The quality doesn't look too bad, but some of the reds look a bit... vibrant.

I've got the mobius, brilliant little thing. It just sits there minding its own business. I have it set to 720p and its clear as day and just as clear at night. I've just bought my mum the can that's posted above.
