Hi! ;)

As you may have read : I've forgot to add the fibre washer in the differential.

Now when I add this washer and torque everything up, I cant spin the differential output shafts independantly anymore, is this normal?

It seems like the diff is locked up, or is this just because a car puts way more strenght on everything?

Cheers

So what is the diff?

What end float did you set it to?

No I did not know about your problem but if you had just posted this in your other topic I would have read it and might have the info.

Who reads every post?

Standard differential ( new diff pin)

Original fibre washer that wwas in the diff before.

Its still on the bench so no endfloat 'setted' ( is that correct english?) But when I removed it from the car, the output shafts turned freely, no I can't mov ethem anymore.

remove the crownwheel and then see if the diff unit will spin, if not then there's a problem with the other output shaft, if it does then there's an issue with the clearance on the output shaft and the crownwheel.

It will be the clearance then, so probably just a smaller thrustwasher?

I had exactly this with a re-built diff which included new fibre washers. When I reverted to the original washers it was fine. New fibre washers can be too thick. Whether they would 'free off' with use is something I've not tried.

There are actually two thickness Thrust Washers available, one is 0.035" Thick and the other is 0.048" (from memory). Just grind a tad off the 'pip' on the output shaft, doesn't need to be precision as when the car is in motion, the gear thrust out (towards the Thrust Washer) anyway, hence why there is only a thrust washer on the outside and not the inside.

I don't actually use those crap fibre thrusts (in a stock diff build), they don't last and break up pretty easy. Not sure if you guys got them in the UK, but all out early gearboxes had Brass Thrusts, certainly all the 3 Synchro Boxes and a few of the early 4 Synchro had them. I'm just about out of them now, and will be making some once they are all gone. Fit and forget.
