I thought the City E came later, they had a marketing campaign, pushing it and the MG Metro as the spiritual offspring of the MGB & E type

 

I thought the "E" was for "economy" with the higher final drive ratio fitted?

Wasn't VDP originally its own car company that Austin took over way back in the 30's?

It was, didn't seem to bother AR's marketing consultants though O_O
