That is an amazing piece of scratch built engineering. Love it.

This is phenomenal! I work in machined metal parts day in day out but doing this for a non business venture is brilliant! Hat off to you dude!

That's proper engineering that is!
Any pics of it installed anywhere, it'd be interesting to see the rest, is it permanent 4wd....?

Very nice indeed, I seem to remember reading a very similar thread a few years back, some sort of austin ant 4wd system or similar being fitted to a moke? Not sure entirely but this rings bells.
But that is a fantastic build, looks well up to the task!

WOW, I'm rather blown away by your interest and lovely comments, made me even blush for a while.....
OK, I'll try and capture every's questions here without doing quotes;-
Cal844 - Epic doesn't nearly cover it. The Machine that I did this job with I'd only had a few weeks when I started doing the machining. Turning work I was rather familar with, but Milling was something I mostly learnt on this job, I'd cut keyways as an apprentice (about 35 years ago) and that was all, I did however have some very good assistance (on the phone and email) from a friend who lives about 1000 miles away, he is a real genius, the stuff he's done is out of this world, so it was very slow as I didn't want to stuff anything (which I did - but from the design side). The Machines also have Digital Read Outs which are just unreal to use, though I still haven't learnt their every funcion.
Expensive? - Well, that's a matter of perspective! I didn't charge my friend anything for my time (shhh - don't tell the missus) only for materials, parts and a 'chip in' for cutters etc. So only cost him around $2k AUD which included some parts for the gearbox overhaul (some he supplied).
Brownspeed - Couple of Days!!! Yeah, right! Mate, when I was 'in to it' it felt like a carear job! Because I was in the dark and fumbling my way through it actually took a couple of months of machining however what I did learn very quickly was that the actual Machining side of things didn't take that long, but the set up could take hours, just clocking everything up before tightening them down, that was very slow work, though I am much quicker at it now!
Ethel - I have some pics of it installed, but before the repair, I'll though them up later.
It's not full time 4WD, there is a Dog Clutch just in front of the Rear Diff, so for the most part, it's front drive, just like a normal Mini (or Moke in this case).
I'll come back on the rest this evening, outa time right now.
Cheers guys, your very kind comments have made my day
