Yea the welding bill would bealot but same as you I do it myself keep cost down.

That hole looks nasty. Rear seat arch seat back could all be affected.

But keep at it fantastic work is showing.

Cheers. i though about keeping part of the arch and weld in bits of a new arch, but might as well weld a whole new arch in. at least i then know its all solid. about 80% of the current arch is in good condition as well, makes it harder for me to cut out

They are so simple to fit that it would be a false economy not to mate

Exactly, i'm going to do it properly. after seeing the effects of badly done patches, might as well take my time

I just miss driving my mini, especially in the nice weather we have been having :(

After a few weeks break (couldnt face going out to the garage - getting fed up of fixing theis fecking car). anyway, spent a bit of time getting the arch fitted. as with any job on this car, it took a fair bit to get it looking ok.

Going to prep the rear quarter panel, and hopefully get that on in the next week or so! So close now!

Great work, good idea to take a break. You've come this far mate not much to do now, since the weathers gone back a bit, should be ready for the sunshine :D

Last nights work. annoyingly i ran out of mig wire with only a few welds to go :( I did notice that my last few welds seemed a bit crap, which may be down to the wire running out. Getting some more tonight and will get it finished!

All the welding is complete, bvut came to rebuilding the subframe and found that all my bleed nipples were seized :(, this lead to me to rebuild the radius arms (and replace one after finding one was knackered), new copper brake pipes and flexi pipes.  all parts cleaned and painted as well. Annoyingly one of the captive nuts in the subframe (that hold the radius arm bracket) broke, so i have cut into the suframe to repair it. getting really fed up of finding all these bits and pieces but hey ho

better news, my mini is now famous

Well after almost a year of doing welding and repairing, my mini is finally finished and back on four wheels. I spent untill about midnight on friday night getting the subframe back in and getting the suspension fitted (as well as the exhaust and handbrake).  Cant believe it has taken this long!

I still have a few jobs to do inbetween getting the body ready for paint;

  • Bleed the brakes (the bleed nipples in the calipers are seized - :(
  • Repair the wiring loom - sliced the rear wiring loom with the drinder - cut a few cables, will solder them together
  • fit the door mechanisim to my replacement door and make sure it sits ok
  • weld in new fuel tank bracket
  • Replace front drivers ball joints
  • replace old shocks with my gaz-adjusts

thats all i can think of for now, no doubt i will find more!

All quiet at the moment - enjoying the warm weather, but unhappy i;m not driving my mini. Wee update

  • Bleed the brakes (the bleed nipples in the calipers are seized - managed to get the broken bleed nipple out of the caliper, brakes now bled.
  • Repair the wiring loom - sliced the rear wiring loom with the drinder - cut a few cables, will solder them together - Still havent tried to fix this
  • fit the door mechanisim to my replacement door and make sure it sits ok - finally managed to work out how to remove the door lock mechanism. seems to fit ok and just need to tweek the door slightly.
  • weld in new fuel tank bracket - Nope, not yet
  • Replace front drivers ball joints - after much swearing, its now done!
  • replace old shocks with my gaz-adjusts - yup, but have to set them up when the car is back on the road

I have also started to work on the paintwork/body work

Looking good mate, I'm nearing the end of welding now sick of the brown stuff.
Will you be painting it black again.
