This might be totally wrong but could it be the fuel pump that is weak and cannot cope after so many revs , just an idea .

Well the head gasket had blown between three and four, i have rebuilt the engine only to find that the '8th' pushrod does not open the valve, there is about a half inch of clearance :@  So tomorrow I will have to try and find out what has gone wrong with that now.

I have wondered about the fuel pump myself, I am not sure how to test it, but i will find out soon when the engine wants to come back to life.  Pressure on now, I am booked for camping at Newquay for the Riviera run....

Well.  The head is back on again - with all the cam followers in their rightful place.

The engine runs very nicely but still has the dreaded flat spot at 50-55 mph where the engine just looses power.

A friend in the local 'Mini Drifters' is very kindly lending me a spare carb to test if it is just that the one I have is tired.

Fingers crossed this will finally allow me to find the cause of this ongoing headache.

I will keep you updated :)
