Painted the mini over the past 2 weekends, roof one weekend and the body of the car the other.

Got the garage to 22 degrees c (UK) and the metal temp was even.

Had some slight orange peel but I purposely didn't thin the cellulose to much, stuck to 30/70 for final coat etc.

Results of the roof,,,,

Paint fully dried, hasnt been touched, as painted finish.

I then wet sanded with 1500 then 2000

rnuARD.jpg

And then used meguairs 105 on a firm pad at max rpm (6500) followed by meguairs 205 on a soft pad at 1500 rpm

Think i just left something in my pants, off to have a cold shower.

My conclusion, celly in a garage at home being used by a novice is DEFINITELY possible

cheers, Dave

forgot to add some statistics.

It was raining out side

The garage was 22 degree c (UK)

The humidity was 78

I did 6 coats with 15 min between flash

I used high gloss thinners

No anti bloom thinners

PSI was 20 at the bottom of the gun

Devilbliss gun

fan spread was roughly 7inches

I used a kestrel das6 for the buffing

I was looking at pictures and wondering why you had put upside down pictures of your house on the forum, honestly I was LOL.  Great job on the paint, had me thinking it was a pic not a reflection.

lol I showed a few people in the bar last night and they had the same thought, kept turning the phone upside down...

Yes mate, 6500rpm with the compound (need the heat to 'flow' the paint) and then back down to 1500 rpm or so for the polish

That looks superb. A really great job. Can you give us a run down of the products used - which primer and colour coat? What is your compressor set up?

yes no probs, as stated earlier, I am a complete novice so take what I say with a pinch of salt :shy:

bodywork back to bear metal with a rubber abrasive wheel

metal then roughed up with 180 grit

etech primer sprayed on

quick run over with tac cloth

3 coats of 1k grey primer (not 2k, that stuff will kill you! )

Quick dusting with matt black - see next...

insane amount of hours then spent block sanding, black paint is rubbed away until none is left, any lows are filled with Upol fantastic filler

all block sanding done in 240 grit wet

once all lows/ highs are fixed i then gave the whole car 2 more coats of 1k primer

black guide coat sprayed again

block sanded again using 400 grit wet

panel wipe

tac cloth

spray colour coat, cellulose - first coat very light (mixed to 50/50)

coat 2,3,4,5 medium thikness - 15min flash time between coats

tac cloth between coats

coat 6 - cellulose @ 30/70

let dry for 7 days

wet sand with 1500

wet sand with 2000

compound with meguairs 105 on a hard pad - 6500rpm (dont go as fast if you are new to this) rub off haze with micro fibre cloth

polish - meguairs 205 on soft pad - 1500 rpm - 12 passes - rub off haze with micro fibre cloth

I am using a da - kestrel das6

cheeky courtesy polish with auto glym high resin polish hand buff on and off.

sit back and admire your popeye arms.

compressor - cheap one from machine mart 10 years ago - 25 litre 7cfm, way to low - i would buy 50 litre next time

devillbliss spray gun - entry level one

2 water traps

10m long air line

sandpaper is made by 3m - dont use cheap stuff, it will give rand sanding scratches.

Thanks, Dave

Just goes to show that you get out what you put in and that paint work is all about the preparation. Top job!

You say 25cfm? do you mean 25litre tank? 25cfm is pretty impressive!! I have this https://www.machinem...belt-driven-air which is a 150l twin cylinder 3hp compressor which has a 14cfm displacement.

Great results by the way!!

Thought it might have just been an error, just thought I would point it out for future reference for other members. The results you have achieved are superb! Well Done!
