I have had cruise on a couple of cars in the past but never felt the need to use it but i can see where it would be useful

I only ever use it in those average speed limit areas, the one on the M1 must be a 30-40 mile stretch and its easy to start going to fast

This was back in 2008....

Did anyone ever get one working?

I still have the prototype in my mini, but that's been off the road for nearly 5 years, never finished the electrical install but it was cable operated on the accelerator pedal so was universal in that context, very simple bracket on the pedal box for the cable mount and then forward to the top of the pedal. The cable is operated by the vaccum unit which is controlled by the electronics which is either takes a pulse from the ecu or a wheel sensor.. They are very simple.

I think you would soon need a non-mini engine to keep all this lot moving! A screaming A series with 140hp defies the image of quality, modern motor!

I am seriously tempted by electric windows and central locking on mine. Ideally, I'd redesign the dash, get rid of all the buttons as well. The brake test switch is next to useless, the lights can be added to the left hand stalk easily enough, the hazard switch could have its own place on the dash, the heated rear windscreen and rear fog light switches could be moved to the RHS of my steering wheel where the front fog light switch is currently located. However, it would reduce the value I think so I won't do that :(

In addition to the above, my ideal mini will have heated leather seats, a modern lighter weight heating system, electric buttons for the door release, and heated wing mirrors. I will one day have enough space, money and time to build said mini.

Electric opening rear windows controlled off a switch on the steering column.

Anywhere where there are average speed cameras, that's where cruise control is a god send. So many times I see people speed up between the cameras thinking that they are static conventional speed cameras...

YES! I hadn't even thought about that. But, given the way the windows open, it would be quite difficult to do neatly I would think.

Again, Yes! I might have to get me some of them! Add a massage roller in and you are on to a winner!

Boo - I don't have a cigarette lighter in the Mini :(

I'd go for a Micra 1.3 conversion, power steering and cruise control.

Better switchgear with illumination would be another thing to look at and also intermittent wipers

I can see that being quite handy for my sore back after freezing my bits off in the pool and driving back in the mini of an evenings. Plus I have fitted a cigarette light socket to the mini for the sat nav/phone charger. Just its right over on the other side of the car by the n/s air vent >_<

I thought intermittent wipers were a standard feature on a mini, unless you don't mean ones that only work intermittently.

I have a Fiat Cinquecento that I'll be scrapping when the MOT runs out next year so I might salvage some of the 'luxury' bits from that, such as intermittent wipers and central locking, maybe even the nice 3-speed multi position heater.

Done that... built a timer module from one those maplin kits which does the intermittent ( also variable )... also put in a period timer on the washer button, so the wipers came on automatically for a few seconds.

BMW Compacts have this.

I'll do some research BRB

I've yet to feel the need for one as a screw topped bottle is much cheaper..
