where can i put the antenna?

inside the car where can i put the radio in your opinion?

the design of the car would be damaged by the antenna? it would look bad on a mini?

It is difficult to say because I do not know what you do with the CB. If you only use now and then take a mobile antenna with magnetic foot and there are racks where you can take-in oder take-off the CB if you do not need it.

no, i would like to keep it in the car

I don't like the magnetic one because i think that at high speed i will loose it

in your opinion can i change the car radio antenna with a cb one and then use both radios using a splitter?

You can get an aerial which clamps onto the gutter, then run the aerial lead down past the door seal and into the car.

The CB unit needs to be where you can easily use it and to the right of the steering column where the fog light switch bracket goes is good. Move the foglight switch bracket somewhere else. Hang the microphone where you can easily reach it when driving.

I've got a CB radio on my s/c mini with a magnetic mount. It may as well be welded to the roof, it aint going nowhere...! I got all my stuuf from Thunderpole in the UK. CB radio, I mounted mine under the heater unit, using the existing screws that hold the heater case together. The hand held receive/transmit unit hangs on the choke cable (left in there after retro fitting fuel injection) and its perfect.

Pics below, the cable from the antenna mount goes in the rear driver driver side window, put a few rubber grommets on the cable to prevent it whipping on the roof when on the move. Oddly after fitting I have only used it a few times in anger....!

I have fitted gutter mounts that are ok but the water finds it's way in so I drilled a hole in the number plate light housing & fitted there at the back in the middle. Works well better forward than back but works great. Cable runs into the boot with the numberplate light cables. & if you want totremove it just unscrew leaving just a small mount on the light housing.

I'm a radio Amateur so use my 2m set in the Mini, I have a magmount that I use on the roof and a good quality one you Mini does not go fast enough to have issues, I bring the coax in through the opening rear window and to the front. Have the radio on a Q/D Mount so you can remove it if parked.

When I had my Mini, I fitted the aerial on the back end, basically where the second tank filler would fit. I used a DV27 which is detachable to avoid theft etc.

You could in the early CB days buy an aerial that did serve the car radio and the CB by means of a splitter box. I haven't seen any around for a long time though.

Magmounts are fine, only trouble I had with these was trying to SWR it in. The good old DV27 is a great universal aerial.

DV27 is a excellent antenna, the car radio/cb antennas were terrible at doing both, they were really poor at transmission and a waste of money, you have a good antenna. Did you get a good SWR on the rear its lacking a bit in ground plane but if its around 1.5:1 your good to go.

is it legal then to drive when using a cb. thought everything now has to be hands free, O_O

Yes it is legal to drive using a CB, or walkie talkie etc.
