I had a new bright (Daytona) yellow Mk.3 Cortina GT 2-door in 1972 after having two Mk.2 1600E Cortinas. Then I changed the Cortina Mk.3 for  Granada V6, followed by a Rover P6 3500 and then that was sold to a very good friend and I got a Capri 3000GXL. After that a Jaguar XJ6 4.2 Auto, another Granada, this time a 3 litre Coupe Ghia followed a Jag XJ6C 4.2 Coupe, The last Jag was almost new and a pile of unreliable junk, so I've had BMW's ever since 1980.

But I've not been without a Mini since 1983.

Do I also spy chrome Cooper door glass trims and Vanden Plas headlight bezels?

Most of these mods I had on my old 66 Mk1 as well. Mk3 black grill (although I always wanted the grille that had the spots cut into it), Mk 3 rear lights, VP headlight trims dressing a pair of cibie halogen conversion units etc.

I also had a Mk3 bootlid and the WP wood dash that I picked up at the '82 Twycross Zoo meet for £15. I also had a sundym (sp) windscreen and 998 out of a late Mk2 that failed it's MOT at the garage I was working at.

My one and only Mini that I sold in 83 for a Fiat Mirafiori. I've only logged on here as I've got the mid life crises to build an old school screamer.

Cooper door glass trims and Vanden Plas headlight rims were fitted and sought after at any trip to the breakers on a Sat or Sunday morning!

In 1979 i owned a Vanden Plas 1300, i bought it off an old couple. They asked if they could keep it until their new motor was ready so i agreed, the old guy then drove it to the shop down the road and put it into wall. It needed a new gold seal engine and new front end.

It was a great motor and i wish i had kept it ( hindsight eh ), the reg was "GKC 313L" I don,t know if it,s still alive.

Sadly we had to break a very nice Vanden Plas 1100 due to serious rust in the 1970's........a friend managed to fit the VP front and rear leather seats into his Mini but they were a very tight fit!

Looks like your VP1300 lasted until 1983 but it might be stored in a garage somewhere or been shipped to Japan where they love them as a very British classic car.

Cheers mabO1uk, It was originally purchased new in Liverpool by the old couple who sold it to me. I sold it to fund the purchase of a one owner Mk3 MG Midget, it was a round rear wheel arch model with 23,000 miles in Harvest Gold paintwork.

I had to sell it when my wife could not get in it due to a bun in the oven ( if only i had, had the snip at 23 i might still have it today, ;D  cheaper to run than a kid !! )

The public car park for Mini's at the Mini 20th Birthday at Donnington in 1979 which I attended with the Mini Cooper Club...............my long gone red 1972 Mk3 Mini is on the right of the Hornet (Wood & Pickett arches, nudge bars, 6x10 Cosmic Slot Mags, 165/70x10 Goodyear Rally Specials, smoke tinted 'Tilling' glass, Vandan Plas Headlamp rims)
