Hello all,

I have searched the forum and not found anything like the symptoms I have.

My speedo was working very well with my rebuild Morspeed gearbox and has done 50 miles or so since with the speedo working.

The car doesn't get used much (or indeed at all really) and the gearbox was probably fit 2-3 years ago.

Symptoms are speedo/odometer not working.

I've removed the cable from the rear of the speedo and driven the car. The cable is turning, but is very easy to stop it rotating with just my fingers. Is this right?

I thought it would take quite a bit more force than that to stop the cable rotating.

Any thoughts anyone?

Ta.

P.S. I don't reckon it matters but they are 1980 1275GT clubman clocks...

you should not beable to stop it turning.

sounds like it has failed or is not inserted into the drive correctly.

check the gearbox end mate, it may not be in right or worn down and not sitting right.

its an A#S of a job but could be the problem.

Sounds like the plastic part of the speedo pinion is turning on the shaft....

Hello Guess-Works, I was awaiting a response from yourself!

Do you mean at the Speedo end or at the Gearbox end sir?

If at the Speedo end, is my Speedo buggered?

Also, is it normal to be able to stop the cable rotating with your fingers when the car is in motion?
