All, I am currently looking to repair my mini foot wells and have a few questions.

The rust can be seen on the pictures below and is the result of a previous poor repair, I am planning to take the interior out and cut back the floor panels to good metal and graft in a replacement section.

First question the cross member that supports the seats is this spot welded onto the floor pan?

Second should I buy a repair panel without the sills or with? Item 10 or 11 from the link below?

Lastly what wire thickness do you recommend for welding up mini's, 0.8mm dia?

Many Thanks.

Yes the crossmember is spot welded to the floor and the inner sill. When you replace the floor you will need to plug weld it.

The link does not work for me but the floor sections with inner sills, half floors or full floor are all good.

0.6mm wire is fine for the floors although 0.8 will do as well.

The cross member does not have to come off as you can cut just in front of it to either butt weld or joggle the floor. and your link is a no go.

I missed one; most of the bodywork is 20 gauge sheet steel which is just under 0.9mm. Toe boards are thicker.

Personally i use 0.6mm wire for welding everything on a Mini. As Wise Old Elf says the majority of the panels are 0.9mm thick with the toe board, heelboard and front crossmember running in at 1.2mm. There are the odd sections that runs to 1.2mm as well.

I prefer item number 10 with the inner sills. I have used this and cut off what I did not need. I have also used number 7 the half floor.

You need to check there is no rust on the inner sills if you are going to use number 11.
