I'm with Sonikk and just about everyone else. i have used the Halfords oil in the past and have never had an issue. Yes it does drop off pressure after a few thousand miles but never to the extent that it will cause damage to the engine as long as levels are kept correct. I've probably done over 20'000 miles on the stuff in the past and its always been good enough that i buy some more. I still run engines in on it now.

I have now swapped to Valvoline VR1 for the rally Mini, but thats because the engine is near on double the power of a standard 1275, that and it has cost me an absolute fortune so i plan on giving it the best stuff i can to keep it in good condition.

It's a bold statement to say that something is 'pretty rubbish stuff', especially when i'm left wondering on what experience that that is based on.

Personally me amd my mate use the comma classic 20/50, the oil pressure has been fine with yearly changes(6k miles/year) he is getting an engine built soon so he will use valvoline 20/50 :)

I work for Halfords and can confirm that all Halfords oil is produced by Comma. Not poor quality in any way.

I use it as well and haven't had a problem with it.

Strangely a fresh lot of this stuff in my engine seemed to solve the standard oil leak for a few weeks.

I use Halfords 20/50 with stp oil treatment. It seems fine.
I am how ever going to start using millers cvt as I've heard good things about less metal particals on magnets etc. We'll see....

When I used this (once only) my oil pressure dropped off fairly quickly. Every other oil I've used has been significantly better, particularly comma sonic and valvoline vr1 which both have loads of zddp.

Of the cheaper oils I've found the morris golden film to hold excellent pressure.

Personally I wouldn't use the halfords again, especially as superior oils (morris and comma sonic) are similar money and the vr1 only a fiver or so extra.

Strange you say that. I ran my old engine (knowing I'd shortly be pulling it to rebuild it and the box) on wilko own brand mineral 15/40 for 6 months or so. Apparently it's rebadged shell. The pressure was superb and didn't deteriorate. The reason I won't repeat the experiment in the rebuild is that I'm worried by:

A. What damage the additives may di
B. What damage the thinner oil will cause to the box over time
C. What damage the lack of zddp will do

Now rover suggested 10/40 for its minis, and I know an independent specialist you uses only 15/40 in customers cars so who's to say its wrong. People say on here not touse it but often without reason. The lack if zddp is sometimes cited but people then say that the halfords stuff is OK despite not having much zddp. Bit confusing.

for £25 I think I will be carry on using the Valvoline

as the oil pressure holds better when hot

never used a 10 40 oil may well show more oil leaks ?

Castrol is £25, halfords about £19

but there all good oils realy

I use it too.  Ive never had any issue with pressure dropping off but i don't do many miles and it gets changed regularly.
