what would be the advantage of raising it up 15mm or whatever it is.. surely a lower centre of gravity is better if anything, and exhaust clearance would be reduced?

just out of curiosity . I'm sure there probably is a good reason

It wouldn't be higher it would lower the car by the thickness of the rubber tower spacer as the towers would be flush up to the bulkhead cross member.
Good point about the exhaust. In essence it would push the Y piece of the manifold up into the tunnel etc
I'm not sure if this would need modding, if so it all starts getting hard work 😁
It maybe a good mod in itself getting the Y piece into the tunnel especially if you run an internal gear linkage

of course, yeah, the wheels are connected to the subframe.. duh

I suppose one plus point would be slightly more clearance over the crossmember for carbs / inlet of whatever type

And as I have the remote gear change things get tight.

Dropped the better subframe of for blasting. And made up a brace before the welding using the not so good frame and some other info on the correct spacing. 30 1/4”.

Need longer bolts and some spacers.

Well. The other subframe is back from the blaster and welding started.

Then I ran out of mig gas so thought I would try the pure argon. Nope nope nope.

will be rewelding when I get new gas.

Other bits arrived

mm the rebound buffers are really hard and the knuckle boots have bits..

Busy weekend new struts and top mounts for the caddy. Fixed a neighbors kids wipers, got paid in Weston Vintage. Got new gas. Ran out of wire. Used up lots of batteries and it does not look any different.

Oh also drifted out the old bearings in the top arms. Needed a spot of weld on one as it was falling to pieces. Cleaned the powder coat of the running surfaces and checked the grease nipples fitted.

still waiting on KAD.

But know the diameters of theirs and MEDs Trumpets. KAD are the only ones that will do a pair.

Mmm backward step. Weld shrinkage. Cut the tower braces out. And while I wait on some new tube guess what hole I was making.

I did the next one round towards the front too, although with no inner wings that one is probably more accessible for you.

So.
just need to dress the welds up and remove the splatter.
