Those are just cut down oversills. Vented yes, but wrong pressing, and i've been told that the oversill pressing is not as good as the proper one, for whatever reason. Also you would presume that some cavity waxing would have happened, but it hasnt, it might have been alright otherwise.

I must add, i've just bought a pair of magnum sills, they are a similar pressing to the oversill, so could be easily confused as cut downs!

The one in my picture above doesn't appear to be a cut down so perhaps they are magnum ones too

No, that horizontal pressing in the middle, between the 'vents' indicates its an oversill, a narrow sill doesnt have these.

On the subject of this topic, my latest purchase....

Previous owner was absolutely adamant it had never had the sills done and it was solid!

Shame really as if it had been done properly there wouldn't have been much (if any) inner sill work required

Yeah, its not so much the outer sill that is a problem as that is a simple job, its everything else surrounding it like inner sills, outer sills, doorsteps and jacking points.

Work to inner sill, doorstep, flitch, fitment of an a-panel, jacking point, O/S floor pan and outer sill took me three weeks of on-off work.

Although my sills were nowhere near as bad as yours this was the outcome today

You cannot see it but there is bad pitting under the black waxoyl i sprayed on the other year. Bloody annoying really at the inner sill is in excellent condition otherwise.

The green ones were actually remarkably good compared to what i posted in the original post.

I cut the other side off today, the sills were mostly intact, and probably would have been easily repaired prior to the oversill fitment.

I didnt intend on doing this much work when i bought the car but in the grand scheme of things, i've done a lot worse!

Brave doing a whole inner sill, i did it on mine, its a right pain around the rear bins and such like.

Bins are out and to be honest its the only real way to do the job correctly. Everything has been changed so access is not an issue at all.

This thread defo needed to be started the amount of minis I have seen and owned that have come with oversills, my current project a 95 rover sidewalk has them and the original sill was still in place underneath it is defo a mini crime to do this and seriously gets to me when I come across as stunning mini with those to finish it.... Also visited a "mini garage" the other day that was fitting these could believe my eyes!

I will post some pics of mine up as soon as I its now going to need inner sill repair, floor repair etc etc before new sill can even be mocked up... :(

Here is a picture of a car i am working on at the moment that has oversills.

This is in the early stages of rotting out and really shows how and where the rust starts so i thought it was worth posting

You'd need a lot of waxoyl to make it worth drilling holes in the closed indentations

Glad I came across this thread! My mini has oversills and I know theres a lot of rust under there. I stuck my finger into the hole and felt the rust. Looks like ill be having a project soon! lol. The first time i seen the oversill i said to myself "this is dumb water is gonna go into the hole and pool in there and rot the car away". Don't know why people would do that to their car! oh well. Im in the US and will order my parts from 7ent.com Anyone want to link me all the correct parts please? thanks!

The parts for a mk3 on saloon are:

LH Heritage Panel

http://www.7ent.com/...er-14a9535.html

RH Heritage Panel

http://www.7ent.com/...er-14a9534.html

Couldn't find if they did patterned parts. Hope this helps.

Ger
