The mini is in the garage, it has had its turbo and wastegate removed. They are being re machined due to the sheer volume of carbon build up stopping both from fucntioning correctly.
Hopefully Marvin will be returned to me early next week :D

Has it had a de-coke to get rid of the carbon build up on the valves?
Clubby's are cool cars, they've got a surprising amount of leg room in the back too especially when compared to a hatch :)

Turns out I can't quote. Haha

right guys,

I have wanted to black out the chrome plastic on the front, I have a spray can of gloss black paint to go with it. Would it be better with satin black? Also what's the best method to go about it?

Or not.

left the house to go to a surprise party and the clutch started burning and smelling, car revving not much go. Managed to get it to the garage. Feeling down heartened and fed up of the car.

Any one know a good place to get a clutch for as little as possible in the Hereford area?

Well chaps and chapettes today my timing chain is making that naughty little rattle that every body loves ;) ordered a new tensioner to see if it helps. If its still a bag of spanners then a new kit it is..

Went to change the tensioner today.
I borrowed a torque wrench fromy local garage.
I have taken pictures to help me remember where things went as well as documenting it for you guys, I got the air pipes off where I needed them off along with the air filter and went to take the tensioner bolt out. I got the torque wrench and after all that work it turns out I didn't check if the socket heads fitted in the wrench.
I've had to put it all back together and wait for a 27mm socket head to for the torque wrench!

Learning curve or what haha!

I removed the top of the air box first, and undid the jubilee clip holding the air pipe to the lid.

IMAG0417_zps81e27a37.jpg

I then pulled the air pipe going from the box to the turbo out. The air box is held in at the bottom left corner by one screw. It also has little feet that fit into some rubber stoppers.
The picture shows the bay without the filter.
To the right is the loose pipe leading to the turbo. On the left you can see a down pipe coming from the turbo. That needs to go.

IMAG0418_zps4293fa94.jpg

this is the bottom of the down pipe on the left. It is held into a plastic tube by a c clip.
The top of the down pipe has a jubilee clip.

this is were the down pipe should be. You can see the plastic tube that it fits into. I removed this with great difficulty as the rubber hose was very tight around it.

There is also a smaller hose attached to the tube which had to go also.

You can just see the head of the tensioner bolt on the right of the picture.

Not super detailed I know but when I go back to it ill take moreeee pics.

Thanks guys for reading!

So I've managed to change the tensioner successfully. Piece of cake to be honest, just bolts in!
However, as the noise can only be heard when its cold I've left the car until now to check if the rattle isn't as bad. I don't think it is any better to be honest so I'm going to see how we get on over the next few days.

Thought I would update.

Flew through the MOT, one advisory on the rear tyres. The headlights needed leveling also.

I had the garage check the chain, although it was terrible they said they didnt like the amount of play in the chain. I said for them to replace it (which they did using the whole kit), but they also diagnosed the hydraulic tappets are most likely the cold start noise I've been hearing. They did do the slightly leaky water pump as well, so it is pretty much perfect now.

At the time I was debating to sell the car and told them to hold off on the tappets as I was selling it. Anywho, no interest what so ever in the car so it looks like I'm keeping it; which quite frankly I'm not unhappy about hahah :P

I washed Marvin to keep him happy :)

Those engines are always noisy when cold (tappety) but should not be excessively noisy.
They also like to use a bit of oil, but only worry about it if it's excessive and you have to top it up weekly. Just the way they are!

Can you post a vid of the noise? As for the headights, do you have xenons?...

Edit, yes you do, these should be automatic levelling

I know the like oil, but honestly the last few weeks I have forgotten to check the levels. Anywho, cchecked them day before last and in impressed, barely any used.

I know they don't sound great at cold temps but this can still be heard slightly at normal temps.
I know its not the death rattle either, different sound all together..

I'll video it tomorrow, and this is what I thought about the lights aswell, I will just move them back :)
