Hi guys

I am planing on converting the wheels of my mini from 12s to 10s so am looking at different 7.5" break conversions, at the moment the engine is a 998 with a stage one kit, as I only have a 998 at the moment would the 4pot alloy conversion from mini sport end up being to powerful (continuously locking up) or would the cooper s conversion be more suitable?

Finally in the future (2 or 3 years) I will hopefully be doing a turbo engine swap. So would the cooper s conversion be able to withstand the power of a 100hp+ turbo engine?

Thanks Jack

The way I see it, ultimately 7.5" discs are more than capable of locking up the wheels on a classic mini, regardless of the amount of power your engine produces.

Check out this thread on the FAQ section though, which gives details of all the brake options available for the classic mini. Those compatible with 10" wheels are highlighted in green. http://www.theminifo...down-on-brakes/

With the TMF+ discount I managed to get the full 7.5inch set up for around £170 .

Did mine recently from this

to this

Stops my 1275 SPi perfectly with the servo too.

As advised on here I did have to torque it all to the correct settings and removed the copper slip from the studs.

Anyone running 7 1/2 discs without a servo?

Interested to hear how they perform.

I run the cooper S setup without a servo, cant comment on how it feels compared with a servo system but mine work pretty well, need quite a bit of force on the pedal but thats just a non servo system for you!

Ive got single leading shoe drums. I know all about forceful braking!

I would like to try a servo but I'm not sure if it's worth the money so haven't yet, but at least I know if I want to stop currently I have to really mean it with the amount of pressure on the pedal, makes me feel more manly ;)

If I ever had a non servo mini, it's the first thing I'd fit. Driving my dad's van and my mum's HL are scary when you need more braking distance than you are used to!

Does your mini have a servo so you can directly compare? And do the other non servod minis you drive have discs or drums? If they do and it makes that much difference I may look into a servo system, I need to replace my master cylinder soon anyway so would seem a good time to do it

My 2 minis have servo - 8.4 inch disks and a servo - 7 inch disks.

The other two cars I use are non servo - drums and non servo - 4 pot 8.4s.

I enjoy driving my servo'd mini much more.

My 87 City E had 8.4s with no servo, I never felt I was missing anything and it stopped perfectly (Well except once!  >_< )

took the servo off my old cooper, they really aren't needed on a mini.

std single circuit non servo 7.5" S setup was more than enough to stop my clubby turbo. Only be changing to alloy 4 pots for the weight saving once it's back on the road.
