Just for reference if you win an item you can do a "contact information search" here http://www.ebay.co.u...h?_sofindtype=9

This usually gives you the contact details including phone number of the other party (it will also send yours to them)

Cheers for that...never knew such a thing existed

Shows how much faith you 2 have in a bit of sarcasm......it worked and i've had a message from him with phone number and a day to collect.

Plus - the wheels are super rare and expensive so worth chasing in my opinion as i do not want to buy new as they are for a rally car and get trashed straight away anyway.

And his response to the extra money - "you won them fair and square"

See, all turned out well. Happy for you. And it's nice of him not to accept more money. Enjoy your wheels! :)

eBay is no different to this forum.
There are sellers that use it correctly, some that don't!

I've only been on here for a couple of months, and already been twice 'gazummped' if that's a word, by the seller not following the 'dibs' rule.

There are people with morals and people without.
It's just pot luck which one you end up dealing with.

No such thing as the dibs rule as far as I'm concerned, first to buy/pay gets it.

As I say, two types.
Stand in whichever line you want.

I think it is common courtesy to offer something to someone who asked for it first. People do have to work and sleep!

Its not morals...

You can take dibs and end up working through a list of people dropping out, when you could have sold it had payment and sent it by the time someone on the bottom of the dibs list says they will have it.

If two people show interest on same day, the 1st person to msg me etc is the one I offer it to first, providing they are both offering same amount, same day payment etc.

Otherwise its as shifty says, first person to pay gets it.

Like I say.....
Ok, look at this way. You're standing in a queue with your kids, or little brother, (you get the picture).
You're waiting for something really important to you.
All excited, buzzing that you're going to get your hands on what it is you're waiting for.

Then someone walks past you, puts the money in the sellers hand, and walks away, past you, with a stupid looking smirk on their face.

Still feel the same would you?

Exaggerated, yeah I know.
But it's proving a point.

The little kid stood next to you, gutted, tears in their eyes.

Still feel the same?

Morals and honour, morals and honour.

Thanks

I think the only way that would happen is if  the seller made a mistake with who enquired first  , or if the item was asked for but then took there time with a PM or paying etc .

Or the unlikely or morally wrong act of someone offering more money - but i doubt that happens .

To use the same scenario...

You're waiting ages in a queue, there are 4 people in front of you. By the time it comes to hand over the cash...

Person #1 gets a tax bill and doesn't want it anymore
Person #2 cat gets run over and can't afford it anymore
Person #3 changes his mind
Person #4 buys it somewhere else.

This has wasted the sellers time and your time as a buyer.

If the seller has offered you first refusal then fair enough otherwise its fair game

Ellie does have a point. She was the first person to post up and say she would have that item and her post just got ignored.

She wasn't even given the chance to make a payment or arrange collection so i can understand why she is peeved/

Now, on the other hand, some forum users don't often check on topics they have published so may have come onto the forum, checked his private messages and seen the offer of immediate collection from the other buyer. Offers to collect and pay for items directly on the thread can quite easily go unnoticed.

Perhaps she should have PM'd the Guy? perhaps she didn't think to? either way, it's done and sold now and it was probably all innocent so i don't think its fair to clog up someone else's thread with arguments from another.

Hopefully deals will go more smoothly in the future for you mate but in the mean time, try not to let it leave a bitter taste on your mouth :-)

Sorry to say but I'm with Shifty. First to turn up on my door with the money gets it.

I actually think this is fairer as it gives everyone the same opportunity of getting the item off me. It does matter what you are doing. You can only collect items off me when I am free. This is much more like a shop. You can only buy off them during their working hours. They don't make exceptions (usually- I do know of a few private store owners who do occasionally deal outside of hours).

As for ebay. All my items are listed as a buy it now. If you don't want someone else to buy it then buy it first yourself. Once its sold its gone. Again this is more like a store. Once they are out of stock the item can't be purchased.

but she said she would have it and was waiting for a reply to make collection arrangements.

Doesn't matter now anyway, its over
