I won an absolute bargain on ebay over the weekend and the seller has gone very quiet - so quiet they're not replying to any messages i send him

He was terrible at answering questions when the listing was live, so not holding out much hope in the transaction going through but seeing as it was a bargain i'd kind of like to put the effort in and see it through as it is an item i've been searching for for years and very rare second hand.

he's still got another item that is live, and has 100% feedback, but usually a seller will respond pretty quickly if you win something and ask when you can collect.   I've not paid any money yet as it is cash on collection, so not the end of the world.

Any thoughts on how to play it?

I had this about 2 weeks ago. Got a feeling it's also because I won the item pretty cheap. He's still been active since and not responded to my messages. I did try and get him to talk by saying shall I pay for the item through PayPal now (was going to collect in person) but even that didn't get a response lol. Still not heard nothing so just gonna leave it now, although do really want the item, but don't think anything else can do?...

You cant really do much . If he doesnt respond you cant get it ,and you will just have to leave him bad feedbck . Or you can pay with paypal, which might put some pressure on him as he has your money then . You can always get a refund then , so thats what i would do .

Could you post up a link for there stuff ?

Hmm, it depends on what it is I think. I once also won an item pretty cheap and the seller didn't want to let it go. So I offered the seller a more reasonable price (in my price range yet not too generous) Maybe give him/her an offer that they are more likely to consider. And I know that might sounds stupid as you won it fair and square, but if it's an item that you really, really want you might want to consider it :)

He listed, you won it. if he wanted more etc, then he should use a reserve rather than avoid ebay fees.

Pay via paypal, prompt him for collection, if not, dispute get your money back and leave neg feedback for being a tool

This is the guys other live item.....

http://www.ebay.co.u...=item2a430e0ac0

Ebay have just sent me a 'please pay now' email with his name and details attached - no phone number though!!!!

But, with a little Facebook detective work i think i've found him as he's got a name thats not common.  Certainly lives in the correct area and into motorsport and seems to have a clio track car - the above item are clio springs.

Might send him a message through Facebook....any con's to this approach?

I wouldnt bother  with facebook , in case he get funny about it . I wouldnt see the problem at that price , just a set of old springs . Pay with paypal and if he doesnt contact you , give him bad feedback . Im sure you could get a set somewhere else for the same money .

Edit , thicko , thats not the item you won .Mong.

If you won an item on Ebay the seller is duty bound to sell it too you. If you pay for the item then you are also covered by PayPal and if the Seller does not send the item or it is not as described then you are also covered for a refund.

Anyone selling (or buying) on Ebay are bound by the various Laws covering Sale (Distance Selling and the like).

Have a check of Ebay and PayPals Terms and Conditions before you decide to pay them any more out of kindness or guilt, basically he / she auctioned it and you won it end of story.

Send a final message saying if you do not hear anything by a particular date you will have no option but to contact Ebay, do not enter into any other negotiation on price etc.

If you still don't hear anything then contact Ebay as it is they that have to regulate the business that they facilitate.

Oh and avoid acting on what you find on Facebook or you'll get branded a stalker :-)

Oh, I also had a seller go quiet after I paid, I kept hassling him but later found out he had been away at a Funeral :-) So give them reasonable time to respond.

Fine line between stalker and investigation I suppose...ha ha....just wanted to see if it was the right person and i reckon it is.

I'll send him another ebay message and see how i get on.  Thing is, the motorsport community is a small one so will probably come across him in the future anyway

I have gotta agree with this, even if it's unfair. The clue is in the "absolute bargain", I think he doesn't want to let the item go for whatever you paid for it. And to be fair he is holding all the cards. He really doesn't need to honour the deal despite what the almighty ebay customers services might do.

I would be tempted to be honest and let him know you are willing to pay more, that is if you really want it. And even though it totally sucks

Why list stuff then not sell it? Ebay is a minefield I sold a laptop perfect working order the guy messaged me saying it wasnt working and missing memory etc which was a lie. I just sent him his money back. Lesson learned dont sell electricals on ebay especially computers. Paypal will always back the buyer not the seller so seller beware theres a lot of it going off.

I used to sell laptops via ebay. Photographed every component, marked with uv pen, screws marked so they align with another mark so could see if it was opened or tampered with. Even went to the extent of putting the warranty type security stickers on which leave a mark if removed. Placing these over a screw usually helped too.

More hassle than it was worth, the laptops were low value, but never had any people trying it on.

He doesn't have to sell it I'm afraid.
I've had this recently with eBay.
I won a full cooper interior for 99p, he went quiet, I paid through PayPal.
I told my dad about it who asked one of his friends where he used to work to find out who he is.
He then rang him up at home.
Sorted, collected next day!
