Nippon Speedo Needle Removal

Best Answer Dan , 31 August 2014 - 08:51 PM

Hopefully you knew this already now you've done it but if you don't let the spring relax before removing the needle you will lose the calibration of the unit. You have to lift the needle over the stop so it sits in its neutral position, and mark the rim of the speedo with the position where you will need to refit it. Go to the full post

Afternoon All,

I've got a set of Nippon gauges that I would like to take the Speedo needle off to put on a custom Speedo dial I am making up, but I can't get the needle off an am reluctant to force it as I dont want to break it - anyone know how?

Cheers!

Can't you work around taking the needle off, an obvious suggestion forgive me but you never know

I have never done it on Nippon gauges and don't how they are fixed but on the older smiths one you do it with a fork. Just slide the spindle which holds the needle between two prongs and gently wiggle it off.

Yeah was hoping it would pop off like that, have had a try though and it seems not to want to budge and I'm wary of breaking it!
