No unfortunately.

I am dreading putting the turbo and that bit of exhaust back.

I think it's supposed to go in and come out from underneath but to do that, you need to take out the subframe and 1 driveshaft. Not doing that, no way!

It's a shame it's on the IOW and not in Sittingbourne.

Has anyone come across this type of pipe clamp before? It looks like one end hooks over the other but it's tight and i don't want to break it.

Any ideas how to undo it?

Also any tips on repairing a plastic tube that has snapped off of a sensor?

Cheers

Ben

Or am i stupid?

Ok, so just discovered that the sensor that i broke taking the manifold off is the MAP sensor. As far as i can figure, it measures air flow in the inlet manifold and tells the ecu how much fuel to inject.

The rubber hose that comes off of the MAP sensor goes onto the inlet manifold and when i removed it, i noticed that it was very blocked to a point where i couldn't blow through it.

What i need to know is would this tell the ecu to add more fuel or less? Obviously, it isn't measuring any air flow if it blocked....

Cheers

Ben

So to summarise, i thought i would list the original symptoms and what problems i have found to get opinions on whether they coincide.

Symptoms:

Very little power from engine.

Lots of exhaust smoke from the tailpipe and from behind the engine

engine running lumpy/shaking around.

Chugging on tickover and when revving until passing 1500rpm where it clears up

Occasional fast clatter from turbo when revving engine

Problems found:

Massive crack in exhaust section that links the turbo to the cat

One injector dry and rusty

Blockage in the hose that links the MAP sensor to the inlet manifold

Blockage in the hose that links the dipstick vent box to the bottom of the crankcase

Oil in the inter cooler and pipework

Minor axial play in the turbo turbine

inlet manifold coked up and wet with fuel?

Air filter very black

EGR valve wet with fuel? Not sure of it operational but have bypassed it by turning the valve 180 degrees.

So do the symptoms and problems found add up? Is there anything else that could be causing the problems that i may have missed?

Obviously, i plan to sort the problems listed on the 'problems found' above.

Thanks

Ben

A fudged map sensor will over fuel. Try cleaning it and running with it disconnected. It may be smoother. Connect it up and see what the difference is.

A MAP sensor is " manifold absolute pressure sensor The map  sensor provides instantaneous manifold pressure  information to the engine's  ECU. The data is used to calculate air density  and determine the engine's air mass flow rate, which in turn determines the required fuel metering
