So is there anything you can do in this situation or do you just have to wait for it to stop?

Happened to me to once is a work recovery truck. Needless to say it scared the life out of me as I was on a dual carriageway.
Managed to get it to work where it it promptly blew up.

you have to try and stall it

Just took it for a drive and it smokes like bileo and sounds like a Gatling gun at low engine speeds. Once you get going it sounds ok but still the smokes.
Tick over is a bit better but still not 100%
It pulls away ok in 1st gear but when you change to 2nd it feels really sluggish and takes ages to get the revs up.
I'm thinking about just getting rid unless i can come up with something soon.

Give it a good run

Just had this advice from a member on the renault forum.
From the video I'd say the crankcase breather is blocked. I wouldn't run the engine too much in this condition due to pressure build up that could blow seals and gaskets. FWIW, it's easier and simpler just to replace the breather stem, they're cheap enough.
Does this sound like a likely cause to my problems?

It could be, ...... If the crankcase cant vent then the pressure has to go somewhere. Ford CVH engines are known for this problem too.....

Yep that could cause the problem
something to remember is the exhaust probably has oil / fuel mix in it - so it will smoke a while even after fixing it
do you know for definite the fuel in the tank is good ?
someone at work runs his jetta on sump oil - it runs ok - but a modern diesel won't run properly at all -
wondering if someone tried to run it that way ?

well it was previously owned by a woman and she took it to the same garage to have every bit of work done right down to fitting wiper blades and bulbs. I have the receipts to go with it so i expect it should be ok?
It has literally only just come off of the road too so not even been sitting.
I have removed the crankcase breather and found a massive blockage in the rubber hose that had made it air tight, Took me 20 mins to shift it!
Still i cleared it, put it all back together and it's still the bloody same! Made no difference at all.
I just wish i could fix the smoke coming fro under the bonnet. Someone on the Renault forum suggested it could be a fractured flexi pipe on the exhaust allowing the exhaust smoke to fill the engine bay which kinda makes sense but they are a quiet bunch over there and i'm lucky to get a reply every other day.
I think i really need to get all of the breathers off, the inlet manifold, the turbo and all associated pipework and inspect the lot. There must be another blockage somewhere.
Like i say, i know the turbo is sucking well as if you put your hand over the induction pipe, it tries to suck your hand up the tube! the turbo actuator moves freely and easily.
Just need to get to the bottom of the chugging because once that's fixed, i can give it a good blast and see if that clears the smoke??

Right, another day on the bus and another problem
I have found the dodgy injector and replaced it with a good second hand one. It now does not misfire but is still a bit rough on tickover and there is now a noise on tickover. You can hear it in the video below. Its like an irregular drumming like someone banging to the beat on the side of a drum.
I need to know what that noise is as it holds the key to fixing it i think because as soon as you rev it and that clears, it revs beautifully and clearly and there seems to be alot more power when driving it than before.
The smoke is still there under the bonnet but nowhere as near as bad and it seems to be getting less and less the longer i run it.

Any more ideas anyone?

Ok so another discovery i just made is that the new noise seems to be coming from within the inlet manifold. If i pull off the intercooler hose that goes up to the inlet manifold it pops and bangs out the end of it. Its the same noise you can hear on tickover but amplified with the hose off. I have tried to capture it in another video.

sounding like an inlet valve stuck / burnt ?
dumping un burnt fuel into inlet manifold
just a guess thou

When i took the knackard injector out, the end of it was dry and rusty.
I'm thinking of paying a garage to just take a look and see what it is. There is a very good one nearby that may do the testing for me. Ill ring them tomorrow.
Cheers
