The turbo seems to be working fine though

Should there be a misting of oil in the intercooler and pipework?

put it back together with a nicely cleaned out inlet manifold and EGR and without the dirty air filter and it sounds better. Still chuggs on tickover but revs alot more freely.

I'm going to ring a diesel specialist to check the injectors next

The turbo went on my old derv fiesta, apart from it went quite drastically with the engine trying to "run away", had had the squeal of death for ages before it went though.

If you can get to the impeller, give it a pull about, see what play there is in it.

When mine went it covered literally everything in oil.

It was everywhere right through the exhaust too.

Took all of the induction hoses off of the car and can't find any splits.

They were all covered in 1/4 inch of black oily sludge which made it a very VERY messy job.

Cleaned them all up and they are ready to go back so the source of the smoke remains a mystery.

Took a look at the turbo too, there is some slight play but it spins freely so hope that's ok.

Don't really know what to do next...

Did you clean the oil return pipe that mounts at the bottom of the turbo? Mine was blocked and that's what caused it to blow my new turbo as soon as I fitted it. Absolute b##ch to get off but worth either giving a good clean or replacing.

Hmm, don't think i did. I have removed the two pipes that go to the intercooler, the bigpipe that extends off of one of the intercooler hoses and goes onto the turbo and also another which goes from the air box onto the side of the turbo.

I ran out of light this evening so ill have a better look tomorrow as i am very keen to sort this out.

It needs to be on the road by the 20th so i better get cracking.

New injector is on its way

Yes mate.

Can't afford to sort this car out and get the 106 through an mot so i am concentrating all my efforts into sorting the Megane.

I will MOT and sell the 106 next month or so

It's connected by 2 bolts at the bottom of the turbo and the other end goes into the bottom of the engine. Getting the 2 off the turbo isn't too bad it's the other end that's difficult. But then again is the turbo covered in oil? If not then I wouldn't worry too much.

Film the smoke out the exhaust once you get it to boost properly.

There's quite a bit of gunk in the turbo, were all the inside of the pipes the same too?

Once you get it running right keep an eye on the oil level.

I still reckon there's a split somewhere and that's why the pipes were covered in gunk.

That picture of the turbo above isn't my Turbo Carl.

Mine looks really clean.

I have cleaned out all of the pipes and am just waiting for the loan of a karcher so i can jet it all off under there.

Hopefully, it will allow me to see what is what.

I will do a film of the exhaust once it is running again. I am expecting ALOT of crap to blow out.

If there is oil , any where in the inlet tract , be careful you don't get a runaway , (when a diesel engine runs on engine oil , not diesel)

usually happens when oil comes up past rings on a worn engine , but can happen when a lot of oil is in the inter-cooler , turbo , pipes , etc

I doubt it will happen - but watch out when revving the engine hard

http://en.wikipedia...._engine_runaway

(think some of the above are pump regulator failure as well)

This happened to a mate of mines dad due to a blown turbo oil seal, the. Engine seized as switching it off made no difference, he tried putting it in 5th with the handbrake on stood on the foot brake and it just pulled away.

He got out of it and ran in the end
