I thought a flux coated welding rod at first, but surely almost half of that rod would be good for nothing?
I think you're trying to light your new sparkler wrong .

Hi Ben, with regards to the crunching in reverse, try putting the car into 1st before going into reverse. There is no synchromesh on reverse. By doing this ( so im told ) its stops the shafts moving and shouldn't grind into reverse. Keep your foot on the clutch when going from 1st to reverse.
This could be a load of old tripe of course and mean that im drinking too much wine.

Update on the clutch. if i depress the pedal and wait 10 seconds before trying reverse, it slips in nicely.
Not sure why but ill live with it.
Anyway, i learnt a lesson last week, don't ask the local Polish scrap man to come and take anymore scrap away just because he offered more money. I have nothing against Polish people, but this guy was an idiot of the first degree.
he was supposed to turn up at 5:30pm to collect the blue donor Scenic so i got my car off of the driveway and up on the road ready. He didn't turn up so i waited a while longer and then put my scenic back on the driveway.
he phoned me a little before 8pm and asked to come right away. I suggested it would be better the next day as my drive is dark and steep but he insisted it would be fine.
He turns up just after 8, backs his recovery truck down the drive, hooks the winch cable up and drags the scenic up on the back of his very steep beavertail then opens the drivers door to put on the handbrake but before he could, the winch cable went causing 1.3 tonnes of car to come hurtling down off of the truck straight at me!
I lept out of the way but he wasn't so lucky. The car door hit the wall, bent back on itself crushing him between the car and the wall on it's way down before knocking him off the back of the lorry onto the floor.
He looked in a really bad way but insisted he was fine.
On the way down, it smashed my garage window, smashed the gutter downpipes off of the wall and took a huge chunk out of the balcony above the garage and the wall too
Fortunately he paid for the damage but f me, it was carnage. All because he didn't screw the tow eye in properly. Why he didn't wrap the winch cable round the front crossmember, ill never know. The front was stripped right out so there was no bumper or anything in the way.
Next time, ill get someone who knows what they are doing

I think if I got hit like that, I'd blag I was ok as well, at least until I got out of there! The thing is, by the time he paid for the damage and the car, he probably won't make too much profit now either.

Nope!
I'm guessing he wasn't suitably insured, hence paying me off before i did anything that might get him into trouble.
If i had been hurt or more damage had been done, i would have phoned the police.
I was going to leave my scenic down the drive and steer the other one round it but decided to move it again last minute. Good job too or it would have flown off the lorry and took mine out

Changed the water for proper coolant this morning and also while i had the battery tray and intercooler pipes off to do it, i checked the bolts for the gearbox mount. managed to get almost a whole turn out of two of them but didn't dare go any tighter for fear of breaking the bolts....
Still going strong, Just need to do an oil change now an double check the gearbox oil level

Cheers Dave.
I just noticed that the rear window in the tailgate is not fully bonded in, you can push it out with your hand!
Better get that sorted before if falls out

You sure it's not a split tailgate Ben ?, on our old one you pressed a button under the number plate light area and the glass opened on its own :)

No, it's defiantly not a split one, there is a dent on the tailgate to the bottom right of the window and it's creased right up to the window rubber so i don't know if the clout has dislodged it?
I have contacted a windscreen company to cut it out and re bond it. I just need to get over there to have it done.
Cheers
Ben
