Apparently not. Replacing the injector made no difference, i just must have made a difference so bad that i made myself believe it.

The fudged piston was the problem all along.

mine had knocking when driving.... turned out to be the rubber on the top engine mount had compressed over time causing the bracket to clunk against the mounting point....the cure was simply undo top mount and drop a washer over the bolt and put back together.....knock gone :)

That's relieving mate so thanks!

I had to use the top engine mount from the donor car which i had been unable to drive due to a broken gearbox so would not know if the knock was pre-existing.

Ill take it off tomorrow and add a washer and see what happens.

Cheers

Ben

no worries, just remembered something about an injector.

re the engine mount, if it's the same as the later ones, hydro, then you can't pack them, just replace.

You can see the mount in this picture mate. Any idea what type and if it can be packed?

That always makes me chuckle. He must have told me that because he knew that if i bought it, i would be buying blind and i would be sending a woman over with a deposit.

got to say pass, only seen the later type, i assume it's a hydro one though and once they've collapsed then you've got to replace them.

Just found out that the hydro bearing type mount is the type that was fitted to the car with the old engine. The mount i am using now from the old engine is the pre-hydro type so packing it out shouldn't be a problem.

i'd still be tempted to go for a new hydro one, i did a fat arsed one the other week, new mounting and you wouldn't believe the difference it made to the car!!

Just looked at the picture and my car had the pre hydro mount so the washer trick worked a treat on mine,I could feel the knocking through the drivers footwell,I found that fix through the Renault forum at the time so you may still find the thread with pictures if you go on there, good luck :)

Slowly ironing out the creases as the days go on.

Finally got to the bottom of the clunking noise after a drive the other night. Was driving through Ventnor with 4 in the car and got to this steep bit of road.

Untitled_zpsatpcklns.png

As it goes round to the right, it gets very steep so as i went round in 2nd, i had to pretty much stop and hill start in 1st to get up it. As i pulled away, there was a massive bang from the front but all seemed fine after.

Checked it out this morning and found that the top engine mount had shifted about 15mm over and when i got the engine cover off to do the washer trick i had been told about, i noticed that the bolts holding the mount to the body were loose!  O_O  So loose infact that i could unscrew the with my fingers. oops

So i jacked up the engine, removed the mount and fitted a washer on top of the rubber, put it all back together, torqued it up and hey presto, no more knocking!

So i think that's it now, no problems left to sort. Hope it stays that way
